Martina would tell him what anyone else does. Improve that 2nd serve. Plus she hates that fella Federer.

I don't think a Fed-hater is part of Andy's criteria. I've always thought of Martina as a Fed-lover. She tends to gush over him during Wimbledon. Perhaps it's a 2 week thing.

Hmm I wrote Fed-h@ter but it has been changed to 'detractor'.

Maybe in the past but the look of disgust on her face when he won in 2012 was priceless. Probably felt pretty stupid when she said he'd never win another slam or get back to world number 1 ever again.

What happened to the cancer that Martina had? Is it cured? I know it was long time ago,
but I am not keeping track of it.

maybe she actually wanted to help him by instilling extra motivation?

In that case it worked pretty well and hope she does it again this year:p

I'm all for equality but there are SO MANY female players that could benefit from Martina's candor. I'd prefer for her to coach one of those up and comers in the WTA Top 20 who just need a little fine-tuning.

[split] Find a Coach for Andy

If Murray's talking about it this openly, is McEnroe coaching him imminent?

I honestly don't think so. McEnroe has been quoted in the press these past few days saying he'd be interested in coaching Andy. I think Murray is just responding to press questions about McEnroe. Not sure they'd be a great partnership. I could be wrong. Andy is obviously not ruling it out.

Obviously, he's the opposite of Lendl, temperamentally, but it could be interesting and fun to see if it would be fruitful. If one 80s-90s GS winner worked for him, why not another?

Very true. Andy is keeping us guessing at any rate.

The lates names floating around are Jones Bjorkmann and Larry Stefanki.
Apparently, Mats Wilander has ruled himself out. There is a short piece on current
situation in an article in tennis.com.

It looks like he has about 8 to 10 names that are shortlisted.

I have a strong feeling that he would not settle on anybody until after Wimbledon.

Murray really needs a new coach, his performance vs Giraldo in Madrid was poor. I don't recognize him at all

Some very honest words from Andy. It's not often that an article leaves me feeling sad and positive at the same time. It was a tough week for him with the death of his friend but he didn't use that as any sort of an excuse. Whatever is wrong I hope he sorts it out quickly as I don't recognise him out there and it's a real shame. I can't even say that I think the surface is a factor as I'm not sure his results would be better on grass or a hard court.

^Iona, I don't want to read too much into it, but "I need someone to motivate me" comment is not something that I like hearing from a pro player in any sports. Anybody who is somebody is self motivated. Even on his own, he has to want to improve, work hard, burn with passion to get to the top.

Maybe I am reading too much into it. Maybe he meant "excitement". Maybe he needs that camaraderie . That I get. It can get pretty lonely on the road, even when you have people around you.

I agree but to be honest I'm not reading too much into that particular comment. I do think he needs a fresh perspective and I think the sooner he hires a coach the better.

I think he's quite down at the moment. With recent events it's to be expected but he will need to get himself back on track asap.

Murray has a serious danger of slipping out of top 8 after the Wimbledon. Once that happens
a sample draw for him might look as follows:

R16: Berdych
QF: Federer
SF: Djokovic
F: Nadal

Even when Fed sucked bad last year, he managed to stay in top 8. If Murray cannot
do that, this year will be a wash off for him.

But, even that case, I would not write him off for the rest of his life. I am sure he will
find his way back to being an elite player sooner or later.

To be fair Federer didn't have back surgery. He wasn't out for months either. Murray may well drop out of the top 8 after Wimbledon but he has very few points to defend after July.

Indeed he does not have much to defend as he was away for the fall and had bad results
in US hard courts.

Not having many points to defend only ensures that you cannot fall even further.

Being out of the top 8, his draws will become lot more difficult reducing his chances
of accumulating points.
