Murray has still done well in the slams, I think he has a bit of a motivation problem in the lower tournaments though, today being another example of that.

Good start with the new partnership. :clap

Yep, it's all Mauresmo's fault.

How's Amelie's supposed "mental midgitness" as a player going to impact Murray in any way? He's the one out there doing the playing.

Well not sure anyone is suggesting that Mauresmo is going to turn Murray into a worse player though it could happen. The question is what does she really bring to the table and the fact that she wasn't exactly known as a tough competitor on the WTA tour is one of the factors to consider. If a player hires a coach just for the sake of having a coach it can end up being more trouble than it's worth.

Reminds me of this:

Mauresmo is coaching Murray less than two weeks, so I do not think she's the one to blame. It's always hard to play on grass after clay, even for Murray.

"Andy Murray blames himself for Stepanek loss"

so the only person to blame here is Andy himself. but i think he will be fit for Wimbledon :)

Certainly no one is blaming Amelie.

I still think it was stupid timing to hire any coach two weeks before defending the biggest win of your career.

I also think if Andy thinks he is going to revert back to retrieving and pushing and will win the Big W again he is nuts. His second serve is looking very weak.

It is a strange time to be testing a new coach. At the same time, I don't remember when he and Lendl began working together, and how close that was to a major, or even a Masters 1000.

But, yeah, why didn't he wait to do this during the break after Wimbledon, and before the North American hard-court season begins.

I agree the summer NA hard court season would have been time. FYI, he "officially" hired Lendl a full month before the 2012 AO, and they had had a good 6 weeks together by the time it started.

This probably means we can dismiss one of the five plausible theories behind "f****** five minutes......".

I think Murray should continue with A.M. since he believes she could help him. Amelie is there for emotional support since Murray is going through most difficult time of his career. There is no reason to believe Murray forgot all skills, mental techniques that Lendl taught him as soon as he leave him. Murray 2.0 is still same player but mentally weaker since it is his inbuilt problem

So was tennis.com

:puzzled

Grass season is over. Heck, the men's Rogers Cup isn't even being played in Montreal! We'll see if he can comport himself better on cement than he did on turf.

Exactly. I was thinking about this, and Amelie, this morning, wondering what her role is, what distinctive and defining quality she's expected to bring. Obviously, losing Lendl was a punch in the stomach, but Ivan isn't the only coach in the world. What is it about Amelie that makes him see her as the solution to his crisis? It'll be interesting to see what happens to him...

Not that I think it'll make a huge difference between Montreal and Toronto, his record is actually better at Toronto:

Wins: Montreal 2009, Toronto 2010
SFs: Toronto 2006, Toronto 2008
R16: Toronto 2012 (pulled out), Montreal 2013
R32: Montreal 2007, Montreal 2011

^^ Mauresmo, French-speaking, Montreal... it was humor.

In that case, I do apologise!

No worries TF7! I thought Amelie was just on board for the grass court season... didn't think it was a great idea then, and don't see why he's doubling down for the summer hard court run. Thought I'd try to state it with a bit of humor.

Hopefully Amelie will prove less disastrous for Andy than Todd Martin was for Novak. :nono
