The Wimbledon final loss this year was one of the most heart-breaking for me and, I think, Federer. I couldn't even really follow tennis for a month or so after.

But looking back, it also reminds me that he isn't done yet. He had match-point at Wimbledon. 37 years old, almost 38. Why not "one more time?" I still have hope for 2020. One more Roger Slam title would go nicely with a Bernie Sanders presidency.

Can Roger really recover mentally from that loss at age 38..? I can’t imagine what his mind and body had to endure to play at that level. Think about it..Roger was serving up the T and Novak was leaning to cover the wide serve. If that ball didn’t hit the tape, it would have been Ace, GSM Championship. What are the odds that he could make another Wimbledon final and if so.the odds vs Novak would be tremendously diminished..IMO

I rewatched that crucial serve game many times and as much as Novak did not miss anything from being down 2 match points it was more to do with how safe Fed played there. I think he forgot for the moment how he beat Nadal in AO17 and I believe he had to do the same with Novak to end it right there and revenge for all the slam losses, because he really had him.

He also had him at that BP at 10 all in the 5th or something on Novak serve when he ended the point with ugliest overhead ever seen. That point Fed had a clear forehand which should have been a down the line routine pass and then another serve for the match.

It's hard to recover from such a loss, but Fed didn't disappear for the rest of the season and that is very positive and it feels like he also still believes he can with another slam, he seems quite happy with his overall level of play. The guy is still a legend. There is a silver coin of 20 franks showing him just about to strike a BH. How cool is that?

typical fanboy reaction. It was a choking moment that Fed has done way more than other greats, don't be surprised if he does it again. It was high level tennis, and fans should just appreciate how good it was instead of just being heart broken over his idols loss.

I think that shows his mental preference when closing out a tight match he had the upper hand of, he tended to focus on playing safe and high percentage. Another prime example was 2011 USO vs Novak, same 2 match points up on his serve, he went slice out wide but well inside the line which allowed Novak to take a big cut for a winner. Throughout the match he had the down the T serve going well, and the chance really favoured him if he did the same. But a really safe slice out wide allowed Novak to take the chance, whereas if he went down the T Novak wouldn't have much of a chance for a winner as there was no angle to work with. Other greats simply don't seem to squander match points and lose like Fed, under the same situation. I don't remember any other Wimb/US semi/final being lost this way ever, and Fed did it twice. In fact strictly speaking, it was similarly bad when he lost to Delpo in 09 and Novak in 10 at USO....so pretty much 4 big matches he failed to close out.

Well, thank God that Nadal was able to survive his 5 set match in the USO final cause I don't think you would have been able to go through another heartbreaking loss... :rose::smooch:

Survive? I thought it was his god level tennis that won it. You're right though, it was more of a survival job. Good to be honest for once.

Ps: this is the Federer thread. Enough about your bff.

Basically Nadal trolled you guys into thinking that it was a survival job but in reality he actually purposely let Medvedev back in the match to entertain the crowd. Also he wanted to pretend that he was beatable so that way in 2020 he will surprise his opponents even more. So that’s why I had to respect Nadal’s wish and pretend it was a survival match. :smooch: Ok you can now go back to discussing 40-15 and your ballerina graceful style player. :bye:

fined 3000 dollars in AO (he insulted umpire during his match vs racist Teddy), I guess it never happened to him, he's usually very polite

He was also fined in his match against JMDP in the 2009 final. He has been fined only twice in all of his grandslam matches.

Federer needs to retire don't want to see him just beating players 100 in the world in 5 sets only to be wiped off the court by Nadal+Djokovic it's sad for tennis.

Wake up you delusional blind idiot. You're beloved supposed GOAT lost 6-3 6-2 6-3 to Djokovic last year fully fit and having been in great form all tournament. That's a total of 8 games won. This year, an injured Federer who is over 5 years older than Nadal and playing poorly most of the tournament lost 7-6 (1) 6-4 6-3 for a total of 13 games won. He raced to 4-1 in the first set and even had missed break points for 5-1 while injured against Djokovic. That's incredible and should put things in perspective for you once and for all.

And here's the best part. The guy you're saying should retire and who is old and injured lost in the semis and your supposed GOAT lost in the quarter finals. Now please once and for all shut the fuck up.

It's 2020 and Front is STILL arguing with the 2 Nadal trolls. It's truly astounding.

I was talking more about Djokovic against Federer not nadal that are you on about? Federer lost 7 times in a row in majors to Djokovic last time 2012, nadal only[ 3] also lost 6 of the last 7 matches. of course there was the 4 years without a win against Djokovic which is longer than nadal 3 years that's a whole year difference little boy, finally since 2017 nadal has 3 wins over Djokovic to Federer only 1 so I think you are the one who needs to shut up because you don't have a leg to stand on just age excurses.
