^ Also, why quit after the Olympics, more likely it'd be Basel in front of his home crowd and even then, why quit at Basel if he qualifies for the WTF? Be stupid to not try and win both again and chase yet another record. It's all complete guess work. No one knows only Roger himself.

My guess is also Basel — unless someone makes him an offer he can’t refuse, such as the US Open.

If he qualifies for WTF, that means he is a top 8 player and is probably still a contender for Slams. So, he should not even consider retiring.
He should retire in Basel in the first season that he does not qualify for the WTF despite playing reasonable number of tourneys, due to him sucking (as opposed to reason being injuries and/or intentional cutting down of tourneys).

Great news. Fed signs a contract to play exhibition matches in China at the end of the year. This is a multi-year contract running up to 2023 year end.

This means there is a good chance that Fed is not thinking about retirement before that.

Here is the link to the article.

Great news. :-)2 Would love to see GOATdal with 23 slams and Federer with 20 slams and then they shake their hands at the net after Nadal beats him.

That would be the very earliest, I think, but like someone else said, I highly doubt he retires before Basel.

My guess is that he gives it another go next year and plays his now-usual 80% season, probably minus clay, and then does a farewall tour in 2021, plays Slams and one or two other tournaments, retiring at Basel at the age of 40.

Just imagine if you're the guy that beats Roger at his last tournament (assuming it is Basel) in his homeland.

Remember when we wondered if he would make it to the 2016 Olympics?

It looks like Federer will play the 2020 French Open. Now, everything can change from now until end of May but for now he confirmed that he will play 2020 French Open. It will be interesting to see on which clay court tournaments before RG.

The cynic in me guesses that his clothing company Uniqlo, would pressure Methuselah to play the most high visibility tournament in Continental Europe.

Probably the same two as this year — Madrid and Rome.

Last year he tried to play Barcelona. But, they did not have a million bucks to part with. They may be saving over the
course of time and assuming they have million bucks saved, Fed will play there.

Everybody said that Fed playing RG in 2019 is kind of like farewell tour aimed at French fans and so on. Now, his confirmation to play there and that too at such early stage makes me think that Fed is "unretiring" even though he has not "retired" as the slam race is heating up. I expect Fed to play for four more years and probably even amp up his schedule. If what I think is right, that is the right attitude to have for him. You don't quit when the going becomes tough.

according to welovetennis, he could skip Bercy 2019, Guy Forget's still waiting to know but Bercy's not on his schedule (see official website)

People always like to conjecture. They will say that Roger will pack it in after the olympics.

As Paris Masters is a ATP 1000 event, Fed's name is automatically entered in it. According to this article, Federer is still unsure
of playing in Bercy Indoor tourney
.

After not playing there for two years in a row, Fed played there last year (losing to Novak in an epic SF). Also, nowadays
Rolex is sponsoring this Masters and so that may also play a role considering Roger is an ambassador for Rolex for a long
time.

Hope he plays there.

People always use the Olympics as an excuse for speculating if that's when a player will quit, as if that were all he was holding out for. If Roger is still feeling good and competing well, OG is an artificial milestone to use, in judging when he'll hang them up.
