As Paris Masters is a ATP 1000 event, Fed's name is automatically entered in it. According to this article, Federer is still unsure
of playing in Bercy Indoor tourney
.

After not playing there for two years in a row, Fed played there last year (losing to Novak in an epic SF). Also, nowadays
Rolex is sponsoring this Masters and so that may also play a role considering Roger is an ambassador for Rolex for a long
time.

Hope he plays there.
Guy Forget hopes so too...wait and see if he wins Basel or not, he'll decide sunday evening I guess

With Fed winning Basel this year, he became the first player to win 10 or more titles in the same tourney, on two different surfaces. He did it in Halle on grass and in Basel on hard.

Neither Ralph nor Novak has done this and also unlikely to do so.

That's a good one! Not 12+ at a Major, and both at 500s, but nice. :)

Who did he beat at Basel? It looks like the great one is finished.

I think it is a rhetorical question. But, nevertheless let me answer. He did beat Tits who had only recently beaten Novak in Shanghai.
Finally, it is not Fed's fault that tougher players did not live long enough to see Fed across net.

SO, you want major record? Let me remind you that Fed had won two different Majors (and that too on two different surfaces) for five years in a row. Novak has not done that even in one Major. Ralph has done it only in one Major.

Right, but didn't all of that happen before 2009? Nice to do it when it was still a walk-in-the-park.

Actually I never followed the Basel tournament, most likely because of my grand slam hangover. After his bad performances at grand slams this year, there is less enthusiasm in watching him play at small tournaments.

Hope DartFed does not read this article in which it is reported that Federer admits he won't be disheartened if he never wins another Grand Slam title.

It's tough to say how these players actually feel and they're all seasoned enough to know what to say and relieve the pressure (and maybe avoid having to answer the same questions over and over...until the media keeps asking them anyway), but I kinda sorta believe this, and I have zero problem with it, and not in the "I'm not a Fed fan so of course I don't have a problem with it" kind of way.

I understand where Darth comes from. He wants his man to be psychotically competitive, with a never-ending reserve of fire burning within, and I get it. But I think it's too simplistic and a perspective is needed.

If you're Federer, you've won way more than you would have ever dreamed. I mean even when he was winning everything in sight, I very much doubt he thought he'd win 20 majors. At the time the notion was ridiculous...just because his main rivals happened to be so good as to potentially tie or eclipse him doesn't make the accomplishment any less impressive from an objective standpoint. Yes, I know that it would historically feel less impressive if a contemporary were to win more but in his head that shouldn't be the case. He's 38, still a top 3 player in the world, was one point away from winning a major, and still among the favorites. He's also doing it while having two sets of twins...I mean, in his mind's eye, there's more to life than just tennis. There's no escaping that. To be disheartened when you've won so much, made so much money, have spent a career out of trouble on and off the court, and pretty much living a life anyone would kill for, would be lacking perspective.

Michael Jordan is my favorite athlete of all time, but everyone's obsession with him has led them to believe that the pursuit of greatness has to be this cutthroat, joyless, tunnel-visioned experience where failure cannot be tolerated. And while this made MJ who he is and is part of why he's so fascinating, it doesn't mean it always has to be this way. This is where I think Darth becomes inflexible with his outlook.

Hope DarthFed reads this latest comments from Federer . He is expressing regrets about not winning Wimbledon and/or WTF this year. Way to go! :yesyes:

That should be the attitude. If he is regretting, then it means he still has fire in the belly.

This is quite unlike what he said after losing 2009 USO. The man did not show any regrets. He actually said he was happy for DelPo. Also, he was not saying it, just to be politically correct at that time. I truly believe his statement that he was happy for DelPo. Remember, after all that was the year in which he achieved Career Grand Slam, tied Pete and surpassed Pete. So, he did not feel much regrets at that time. But, I felt serious regrets, especially when he lost to a green horn at USO. While DelPo truly played out of his mind in the later stages of the match, Fed had it under control early, but stepped off the gas at the end of second set.

Yeah, I remember his first comment in the on court interview after the DP loss was that he was feeling okay and this isn’t a disaster or anything.
