^ Guga, as always reminding us why everyone loves him. Zverev made me laugh when he said, "Not from me. That's enough now." Elegant from Nick.

^Glad to hear it. I'm not ready to see him sail off. In fact, wouldn't it be great if he hung around at a few choice tournaments into his 40s, like players would do in the old days? Even if he slows down, why not play a Stuttgart-to-Basel abbreviated "half year?" The extra rest might give him an extra step in the ~8 tournaments he would play. Just a thought.

I clicked on the linked article, and it said he's confirming Dubai 2020, that he'd like to play in So. America next year, and play some exhibitions in Africa. They mentioned that he wants to go to Olympics in Tokyo, but it wasn't a direct quote, so maybe just as much supposing that as the rest of us do.

As @mrzz pointed out, we have to racalibrate our predictions of the Bigger Three every month or two, but at this point I see no reason why Roger can't play at a respectable level until he's 40. That's August of 2021.

I think the general view, which I agree with, is that Roger will play as long as he feels that he has a decent shot at winning a Slam, namely Wimbledon. Even when it becomes clear that the ship has sailed, he could play a partial season farewell tour.

He has a decent shot at Wimbledon, and even the US Open, this year, when he turns 38. Let's assume the same for next year, when he turns 39, but it may be be more clear that he just can't keep up anymore. Then in 2021, he can do his farewell tour, play key tournaments, and retire at Basel.

So Basel, 2021, will be his last tournament. That's my (current) prediction. That would mean we've got Roger for a bit under three years, and at most 11 Slams (if he played every one from here on out, which would be unlikely).

Imagine the pressure that players will feel to "let the old guy win" at Basel that year.

Fed once again told explicitly that at this stage he is not chasing #1 ranking. He is just trying to win the tourneys that he enters in.
There is no doubt that he is telling the truth.

Having said that, if #1 appears at any time to be a low hanging fruit, I am sure he would go for it.

Given that Nole is not exactly dominating in the lesser tourneys, there is a chance that Fed may clinch #1, especially if the slams are distributed to multiple players.

For the record, Fed will be #1 in the ATP race rankings if he clinches Miami title.

Funny and interesting to learn how brit politicains are Fed fans; but wrong. This is a parliament representing interests of the nation and the house speaker praising Fed while presiding difficult brexit talks, shows incompetence. Fed lives and is the citizen of Switzerland, so from the political standpoint at hand during said talks, Fed represents Swiss (or at least European) interests and not the interests of UK at the brink of brexit. Therefore the speaker should refrain from expressing his personal fanship (and even friendship if he has it with Fed) in favour of his job function that he's paid for.

What are you talking about? This is British humour. Clearly you don’t understand it. Nothing serious here..

Loved British humor while growing up! PBS had plenty; "Monty Python, The 2 Ronnies, Dave Allen, R U Being Served?, Agony," etc.!
I used to love "The 2 Ronnies & Are you being served?". I still do. I love Porridge & Open all hours too as well as You rang m'Lord.

Fed once again tops the list of highest paid tennis players with a haul of $93.4 million last year. There are only five tennis players who made more than $25 million last year. They are the big three, Serena and Samurai. :good:

Interestingly, Samurai earned more than Ralph and also Rena. Coming from a region with no sports heros always helps in earning big bucks. Samurai earned $37.3 million and he has not even won a slam. Similarly La Ni from China and Sania Mriza from India also earned quite a lot, the later not even winning any big title in singles.

The Barcelona tourney refused to pay a million bucks to Fed this year, otherwise he would have made $94.4 million. Let us see whether they start saving for Fed next year.
