Definitely. Khachanov had break-back opportunities in both sets, but never capitalized. Novak broke early in each set, and kept the lead, even when challenged.

So Nadal's 1 & done for the most part! I guess he can play Karen for 3/4th place! Wow; how in TF did Anderson beat WAFA?

Rafa thinks he is "too big" to play in a match that decides 3/4th place and so has left town.

Oh, get over it. It's an exho. You have no problem with Roger grabbing appearance fees, but sneer at Rafa. If Roger manages his schedule to protect his body, he's smart. If Rafa makes similar choices, he's dodging. Rafa doesn't think he's "too big." He's protecting his body for tournaments that matter. May I remind you that Roger withdrew from the ATP finals in 2014, handing the w/o title to Djokovic, saving himself for the DC final, which Switzerland finally won, the following weekend. Now, that was a disappointment to the crowd, but it was his choice.

Rafa took their money. He should have played the 3/4th match. Rafa is not injured (except that his ego is hurt). Not at all comparable with Fed giving a walkover at ATP finals due to back issues (not to mention that it is well known that Roger has the fewest walkovers and mid-match retirements especially considering he has played more than 1000 matches).

You are sort of hilarious as to how certain you are how people are feeling half a world away, and how much you don't mind being a judgmental old cow. You're right, though...it's in no way comparable to Federer backing out of that ATP final.

Novak won Abu Dhabi. It was not easy, Anderson was not a pushover.
4-6, 7-5, 7-5

It's amazing all these players who've been around doing absolutely nothing for years, then all of a sudden closing in on 30 they're breaking out and making major finals! It was Cilic winning the USO in 2014, then getting to AO this year and winning Queens! Now Anderson's making his mark and pushing the elites! He's not winning over them outside of the Laver Cup, but as you said, he's no "pushover!"

I forgot Anderson did come back to beat Fed at Wimbledon! I didn't see it, but heard it was a monumental collapse by Roger! :cuckoo: :banghead:

Personally I haven't seen any of the matches; just checking for the results! I had forgotten about the final thinking Nole would win easily! It might hit the Tennis Channel within the next few days! Right now they're boring us with the Hopman Cup! At the moment I'm getting a review of the USO! That's always worth watching since Nole won and Serena went down again in flames! Still can't believe either happened!

Anderson seems not that interested in the 3rd fiddle he's been assigned to. It'll be interesting if he can ever take it further.

I have not seen Kandy's game at Mudabala. If only Kandy can back up his serve by coming forward, he really has bright future. For those who watched Mudabala, did he do that?

No he had many opportunities to come forward and finish the points at the net when he was able to push Djokovic behind the baseline but he preferred to stay at the baseline.Even MP down he had one such opportunity.
He did that well against Thiem at London, maybe he wasn't confident following the same strategy against Djokovic

You’ve lost your mind, the argument is lost but you are still trying too hard. Get a grip with reality, you don’t need to pretend like you win a lost argument....just stupidity and make you look pathetic.

Players today just don't like volleying for the most part! Even Nole will allow a ball to bounce in front of him inside the service line to hit a groundstroke over a punching volley most times! Then there is the paranoia and frustration of getting passed! Nadal puts a huge premium on that and gesticulates with frustration when someone like Nole passes his arse while at the net! Sometimes it's as simple as a huge "eyeroll," but at Wimbledon when it happened a couple times he swung his arm around in frustration!:yesyes::p

He was frustrated probably because he hit a short approach shot, not because he is bad at the net or that Djokovic was that good.  Nadal overall is the best volleyer on tour and the best at hitting passing shots. :bye:

P.s Djokovic or Federer would have probably broken a racket instead of Nadal’s subdued minor annoyance. :yesyes: :cuckoo:
