This is probably in a long time I saw Roger played very positive match against Rafa.
He showed he can play Rafa. I was actually nervous watching this match but first time I enjoyed. This was a very good performance by Roger because Nadal recently playing great tennis with lot match practices and roger was not . This gave me hope that USO will be quite competitive.

Win or Lose, Fed found his game, that is the important thing today.
This will give him enough confidence.

With any draw, Fed will reach QF in USO and with favorable draw
(such as Ferrer in the same quarter), he will make it to SF.

For all the people who have questioned my arguments about how poor Federer's strategy has been over the years against Nadal, tonight's match was excellent proof of what I have been saying for years.

The advantages for Federer on a court like this are obvious enough. The fact that Federer can't exploit them is a joke.

Cali, once you understand the basic fact that tennis is played with an ACTUAL OPPONENT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE NET, you will be on your way to understanding tennis...Obviously you are not there yet...Keep working at it though...

Once you are able to detect obvious vulnerabilities of the player on the other side of the net, then we can talk.

This is such freaking crap.. Fed could have won in straights set

He was mixing it up, being aggressive and owning the net. It seemed he did have a strategy, but he couldn't keep it up for 3.

Federer played really well even winning some points with his bh on nadals fh :D..think how sh1te Federer played until at 1-6, 2-4 down v Tyrannosaurus Haas, then the magic started to come back, tonight was the best fed played since the world tour finals last year, still..new racquet after usa open though..

still rafa/wafa is still playing 'wonder woman' tennis..i mean he forgot to lose,

he must have magic in his panties..maybe that's why he is always pulling on them ?. :s:)

I think del potro having retained his sf 360pts from last year, so goes about 15 rank points above fed (???) by Monday.

Not bad for an "overrated rivalry."

10-21, 2-8 and fans on both sides are excited after a competitive couple of sets and a walk in the 3rd. You'd think the guy who lost 21 is a scrub :nono

Too bad it had to end with a Rafa error that fed didn't challenge!

Cali, same goes both ways...Nadal has been better at detecting obvious vulnerabilities of Roger way better than Roger ...Hence the H2H...Why? Because Nadal has the advantage of the high bouncing top spin forehand that finds Roger's backhand at will, all the time, or the wide out serve from the ad court...On the occasion Roger exploits Rafa's weaknesses, he had been successful ...Simple really. At the end of the day Rafa has exploited Roger's weaknesses twice as Roger had his.

why would you say it is a "joke"?

nadal made some adjustments at the end of the 2nd set that changed the dynamic instantly.

he knew he had to return better or else the match was going the other way.

2nd thing he did was digging in and try to stay in the rallies a little bit. and then he had to pass well to keep roger on his toes.

roger was serving too well and hitting his forehand quite well. this was no easy assignment.

so along the way nadal found some rhythm off the ground.

it was the adjustments that nadal made that got him this win. he knew he simply had to focus better and start returning better. that was priority #1.

beating roger on quicker surfaces is never easy. nadal has to work very hard for his wins.

Even though Fed played quite good today, do u guys think he has enough
fuel for five set matches under his current physical conditions.. He had hard
time keeping his level in 3rd set itself.

I was also surprised that Roger made it a match. I am not that optimistic about the US Open however.

I hope Fed watches the replay of match point and remembers next time a big point is called in and it's likely game over you should definitely at least use your last damn challenge.

I do not think he has the stamina to last five sets.

Moxie, Moxie, Moxie, Moxie.

Federer has been "mixing it up" against Nadal since they started playing. He has also come to net since they started playing. The result has been a near sweep in 16 clay-court matches and a gradual infiltration of Federer's power on the non-clay surfaces by Nadal.

It simply does not work to "mix it up". Broken and others who say that this is the most sensible way for Federer to approach Nadal are simply being illogical.

There are plenty of aggressive yet reasonable maneuvers for Federer to take advantage of that he hasn't. Will he ever?

At this point it is doubtful, of course.

The margin for error on Hawkeye is 3.6mms (was in the NYT today.) Surely that was within it. Meaning that there could be a reason Fed didn't challenge.
