Looks as though one of the "kitchen sink" players (Lisicki) had to withdraw.

Caroline Woznicaki has withdrawn citing a shoulder injury.Just listened to her press conference she decided to give her shoulder a rest.Caroline said at this stage she still intends to play in the Sydney tournament.

It seems as though she injured her shoulder lugging

around that big rock Rory gave her for their engagement!

Last match is finished with an expected Vika win. And what a gameplay she showed up with. A very improved 1st serve and her accuracy and confidence is back - well done Vika.:clap

Thursdays matches looks interesting and it's ok that the top 5 remains in the quarters, just sad that so many has to leave without playing. With Vika back in top form - Masha looking good - Serena ok after a rusty start - Jancovic ? haven't seen her but Kerber looks good too so that might be the match of the day.:clap

I saw JJ play, she seems to be picking up where she left last year, very close to her #1 days... She will face heavy resistance from the Top German.

I like to see the top 4 seeds make the semis.

It's really weird but I kind of expected this to happen. I've never particularly liked JJ, or disliked for that matter. It just seemed like suddenly something happened where she wasn't playing as well after being so consistent. I'm glad to see her playing to her old level. She really was such a consistent player for so many years.

A little fright when Masha lost the first set - but then it was all good - A Masha win 46, 63, 62 - I'm not holding my breath for a victory if she is going to meet Serena in the semis but if that happens it sure will give Masha a perfect work out and good practice before the Aussie Open

Boom Boom is playing it smart, she wants the big one, she knows the winner here will not win the big one!

Masha struggled with Kaia, Kanepi was playing smart today! She knew she couldn't outgun Masha.

Serena is almost done with Lil' Domi. We Know who she will play next!

I have a feeling there will be more withdrawals!

Serena was pretty ruthless for the most part during her match. That serve has been on fire. 11 aces the first match and now 12 aces in this match. Not good news for the rest of ladies if it keeps up.

HUH??? That's a ridiculous statement you made.

Eight of the last eleven winners of the Aussie Open are still in this tournament, meaning they know how to win the big one.

Boom Boom may want the big one, but, she needs to get past the 4th round of a slam other than Wimbledon.

Sunday,
Serves are easy to overcome, 11 aces is only 11 points in a 70-80 point match. Big John can fire more than 20 in a match!
BTW, Serena got 12

Strategy wins against Serena.

Masha doesn't have it but Vika and JJ know better, I think JJ has the best shot against #1

Calvy, you think highly of Serena, which is OK, she is #1
Don't down-grade the rest of the tour because of Serena, she is vulnerable!
Boom Boom showed us in the biggest stage....who would have thought Serena would be out-gunned in Wimbledon?

BTW, this one has been played for 5 years and no one has ever won Brisbane and Aussie Open.

JJ is ranked #8 she is the #4 seed here.
I think Ana has a more potent game than JJ but JJ is smarter.
JJ knows she doesn't have much time, that makes her hungry!

Obviously, you didn't read my post carefully as I said in her first match she fired 11 and this round she fired 12, so obviously her serve is clicking which is good for her. As you know when the serve clicks, the rest of Serena's game usually clicks. You can have a strategy against Serena, but you always have to be prepared for Serena to usually figure out what you are doing and counter it. Most players don't have that "plan b" for when their initial strategy doesn't work against Serena.

I am sorry, my bad.
I don't think Serena has been rusty at all as some said!

It will get tougher from here on, the kitchen sink is coming!

It really is on fire. But what I love the most is how calm she appears. She has gone down 0-30 in games in both matches and then just calls up a few aces to get it back under control. These two matches have been great prep. Both players made her work a little by moving her around. I predict she will be crushing aces for the rest of this tourney. GO SERENA!!!

I don't think Serena is rusty as some might have suggested. I just think she drew tougher opening players, so it was never going to be a blow out. I mean Petko and Cibby are no slouches and can bring trouble to any player. We will see what Serena brings against Masha in the semis.

Serena's serve was pretty damn good earlier. Looking forward to the match tomorrow.
