Serena did date Baby Fed. I know ATP players, and it was widely known that they dated.

No she did not....And I am leaving it that. One more thing every guy Serena has ever dated has been splastered on the front page of every news paper or magazine and has been talked about in every tennis tournament I challenge you to dig up any magazine or paper that talks about Rena dating that guy.....Again, I know for a fact that Serena never dated that boy.

Peter Bodo on the state of the WTA after the first week

of the new season:

The postseason holiday break and the whole "Auld Lang Syne" thing encourages everyone to hit the reset button, psychologically. But does anyone really expect that things have changed that much?

Not Serena Williams, that’s for sure. And she proved it by busting out her whooping stick and beating No. 3 Maria Sharapova and No. 2 Victoria Azarenka in back-to-back matches to win Brisbane.

For all the hype that surrounds Sharapova, it was Williams’ win over Azarenka in the final that was truly noteworthy, for as ESPN’s Howard Bryant was the first to emphatically argue, Azarenka is 32-year-old Williams’ true rival -- at least in terms of the quality of the matches. It may all be splitting hairs to Serena though. The real takeaway is: “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”

It's pretty incredible to see Serena playing the way she is at her age and she doesn't seem to be declining in any way whatsoever, unlike say Federer. If anything she's getting better which is a scary prospect for her opponents. Apart from the serving display last weekend but that was an anomaly.

Courtney Nguyen SI sports writer:

New year, same result. Serena Williams successfully defended her title at the Brisbane International with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Victoria Azarenka in the final, a decisive signal to the rest of the field that the No. 1 player in the world has no plans on slowing down in 2014.

Serena wasn’t at her best and she didn’t have to be: More than her 120 mph serve, powerful groundstrokes, or athleticism, Serena’s ability to win matches while playing her B-level tennis is the most dominant aspect of her game. She wasn’t as sharp as she was at this time last year, when she won the title dropping just 17 games (she lost that many in her last two matches this year). Against Maria Sharapova in the semifinals, she struggled with her serve, double-faulting twice in the second set tiebreak, and still won 6-2, 7-6 (7). In Saturday’s final, she overcame a second set wobble after breaking to a 2-0 lead. Azarenka reeled off four straight games to earn a 4-2 lead before the American found her rhythm again and battled back to close out the match in two sets.

Serena is still beatable in Melbourne…hypothetically: In a wager of Serena vs. The Field at the upcoming Australian Open, which way to do you go?
