Embarrassing stat of the day. Serena now has more DFs today than Maria I believe.

42% first serve % for Serena is atrocious.

I don't know how Serena is winning this match w/ such a poor 1st serve % and so many DF's.

Her ground game has still been pretty good. In set 1 anyway. Lots of DTL BH winners there and good service returns. Pretty poor in every department so far in set 2 though.

Reminds me of the Sharapova v Zakopalova French Open 2012, round 4 match. Probably the worst serving I've ever witnessed. 18 breaks of serve I believe in that crapfest.

Ridiculous screeching and to top it all, ridiculous umpiring. Serena's lob was in.

6-5 Serena in the 2nd set. I'm leaving for work in a few min so if Maria holds I'll have to check in at work to see how it ended.

Amazingly this is only the 2nd Tb they've ever played in 16 matches.

Unbelievable. 2 DFs in a row from Serena. 7 DFs each now. Awful match.

And Sharapova is back in front. In DFs that is.

Absolutely terrible match. Ugly stats from both. At least it's over. Another set of that would've been torture.

I don't agree with you. This match was excellent seen from a spectators point of view. Yes it was a match of doublefaultitis and yes we don't expect that from such top players BUT even they are human. In between it was tennis on a very high level and I - as a no special fan of either player - enjoyed second set of brilliant tennis. Sometimes you have to look at intensity and commitment in a match and not always look at the poor stats - stats were poor but play was really great:clap

Dunno about very high level really when there were 57 UFEs in just 2 sets between both players. I've seen worse for sure besides the serving displays but personally thought it was pretty poor. There were patches of great play from both but it was never sustained by either.

Regardless, both of them really need to sort their games out in time for the AO and of course Serena still has a final to play here where she really needs to step it up as that serving was abysmal today.

Of course you're right here that they have to go practise before AO and I'm sure they'll do. If any player (well on top level) is playing her best and make no faults she'll win every match but reality is not so, and many matches are lost inside their heads and that's what I find fascinating about tennis - you never know if it's one of those days. Of course you're sad if your babe is having one of these days that's what fans are for isn't it:cool:

Final tomorrow

19.00 - local time.

Serena Williams vs Victoria Azarenka

Doubles final follows after that.

Wow, that second set was a nightmare :/. Glad Serena didn't eff it up too terribly to make it a third set. I mean I am hoping this was Serena's one match where everything is not working and she still guts out the win, and then everything will be fine tomorrow. The one thing I can say is she wouldn't be Serena if she didn't have a junk match, and I am hoping this was hers for the tournament.
