All the major news outlets just called it for leave about six minutes ago.

Especially for smaller countries that have been bullied into all kinds of ultimatums and demands.
I'd be interested to hear a couple of examples of this, as compared to benefits of EU membership for smaller countries.

That is a small world version of what the effects would be on the UK, according to most world economists. The EU is wildly imperfect, but can be made better, especially with the UK voting close to stay in. That would give loads of leverage. The EU bureaucracy is a problem, but fixable. It is also a more sizable trading bloc than the European countries were, alone. It's a long-term endeavor, but I think it can work. Britain doesn't have much leverage on its own.

They will have even MORE leverage now that their countrymen have made the statement to go.

If that's true, it's a sad day. I don't think it will benefit Britain, or the EU.

The fifth biggest economy in the entire world doesn't have leverage? The fourth biggest military power in the world? A permanent member of the UN Security Council? A country at the centre of the Commonwealth?

Rain Check: YOU CAN TRADE WITH ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! You then make trade deals to improve the terms. The UK is a huge customer for the EU.

Wow...all of your imperialist background just leapt to the fore there. I think you over-estimate Britain's ability to self-sustain.

Smaller countries are like puppies after their masters in this union. Not something that is appealing to me. The fiasco with Greece, then economic struggles with all other smaller EU countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and who knows what other ones. I never liked the concept: my way or the highway, which is pretty much how they do business in EU. Maintaining the European standard can be a bit overwhelming. Would you like US being told what is best for you guys by somebody else??

Would you vote to give American sovereignty to a club consisting of 27 other countries... I doubt it.
Obviously, there's nothing comparable, so it's hard to say. But I do support the sway that the UN and NATO have over our decisions. We are not in this alone. This isn't the 19th Century.

Congratulations to all Brexit supporters. Hopefully more countries will follow your lead.:drums:
Why do you support the break-up of the EU? I'm asking you seriously, because that's what you're calling for. It's been a complicated amalgamation of states, and they haven't done everything well, but it was an idea to bring Europe together, for political reasons, philosophical reasons, and economic ones. What do you have against that?

Juncker stated that if the UK remains there will be no further concessions or negotiations other than what was already agreed to - which was nothing. Total A-hole.

Not everyone sees it as an overall good like you do. Some actually see the opposite and trying to explain why is not going to be fruitful

Maybe some short term hurdles of the UK, but a good outcome. Very bad for the e.u.
There are many economic models that say that it is very bad for the UK long and short-term. I don't think it's horrible for the EU. Britain has always stood outside of the Euro. It rather makes no never mind. Britain is a strongish economy, but not the deal-breaker that Germany or France is.

With this exit...if it is really so, there will be a domino effect - in France, the Netherlands, Italy, and probably some very huge upheaval in Germany.
