Does anyone else think Federer should hit the DTL backhand instead of the slice when DP runs around it to hit a crosscourt forehand. HE won a lot of points in that wimbledon final last year because of the DTL backhand in similar situations

That last shot of pure gunk sums up Roger's year. Slow 2nd serve and right into the net.

That's a tricky one, first it is harder to hit, second, Delpo has an amazing running forehand.

The point at 1-1 was what I meant , what a backhand that was :clap

Roger has been excellent at net today even with a lot of tough volleys.

Fed goes for a dump now to celebrate. Take the cork out, Roger.

You need game, but you need hunger and heart. Federer will take this one and I hope the final set goes to a tiebreaker, maybe 20-18!

The winner plays Rafa tomorrow afternoon, so I'll see it. Have to find somewhere to pack the missus off to, though... ;)

I think people were too optimistic regarding Fed's chances. As I said, I couldn't see him winning. The surface here is slower, so Del Potro has more time to hit big. And to me, the thing that stands out the most about Roger's game is that he really no longer has the ability to handle pace the way he used to. You can see him visibly wobbly, and it's not helped by the fact that he can't move or defend as well.

I was optimistic because DP isn't that good.

Your standards are getting increasingly ridiculous as off late.

In any case, Roger's lost to plenty of people who aren't that good this year, including DP a couple of weeks ago.

Yes and Roger also beat him a week ago. DP isn't great, the one and only big tournament the guy won came 4 years ago. Facts are facts. It shouldn't take a Herculean effort from Roger to beat him...

you always miss the point, it's not about resumes here...it'a ability and level of play and Delpo can play at a HIGH level in case you are not watching this match. Always talking about Slams won and lost will get you behind the curve......same thing with Murray

Not missing the point at all, we are talking about a guy who hasn't won crap in 4 years, reached 1 GS semi and 1 MS final. Of course he can play at a high level (though we have not really seen it today) but that can be said about anyone in the top 10. The problem is putting too much stock into how bad Roger's been this year. Doesn't mean he has no game left and if Roger plays as he should why in the world should he lose to DP indoors?

Many times in this second set, Roger hits an overhead smash and instead of it
ending the point, Del Potro is able to get his hands on it and Fed has to do a
difficult maneuver on the next stroke to finish the point.

Is this a serious argument? Remind me, what is Tomas Berdych's resume? Not that impressive. That doesn't stop him from troubling Roger, even pre-2013 Roger...
