Novak will not tank, 200 points and 140k plus the fact he is a proud guy.....c'mon what the deal with the tanking talk??

Well I think we were all kidding regarding Nadal tanking yesterday. But today let's just say if Gasquet somehow wins the 1st set I think Nole would be smart not to make too much effort to win 200 ranking points.

I fear richie will get embarrassed to be honest...when Novak swings freely; I call it his F#$^ it mode......he is unstoppable.

Good point. I wish he would go into that mode more quickly against Nadal more often.

His inexcusable US Open final loss was case and point. Once he opened it up in the second and third sets he dominated.

Glad to see you're not over it...

Also, Roger has a winning record over Djokovic, so how could he lose the H2H matchup?

The general H2H record has nothing to do with anything. In this case, "H2H match-up" refers to their meetings in this tournament. Djokovic beat both Roger and Del Potro, and thus, has won the "H2H match-up."

That is not explicitly stated in the ATP handbook, but if it is the case, this is even more confusing.

And what about the rest: what constitutes a tie? That's also not explicitly defined in the handbook.

If both players have won 2 matches, and lost 1 match, won the same number of sets, and lost the same number of sets, won/lost the same number of games, isn't that a tie?

Conversely, if both players have won 2 matches, and lost 1 match, but one player won more sets and lost fewer than the other, isn't that not a tie?

Standings are determined by: 1) Number of wins; 2) Number of matches; 3) In two-players-ties, head-to-head records; 4) In three-players-ties, percentage of sets won, or of games won initially to sort out a superior/inferior player, then head-to-head records; 5) ATP rankings

Again, Head-to-head records in this case does not refer to the overall head-to-head record, but the direct meeting between the two players in that tournament. This is common terminology for sports that adopt the round robin format.

Nole wins the group even if he finishes 2-1 due to winning against Roger on Tuesday. It's only confusing if it's a 3 way tie.

Don't see Novak pushing himself too hard. Seems content with the break and serve it out. Probably what the 2nd set will look like too.

edit: or not. :(

Thanks, Broken & Darth.

Now all I need to do is remember all of this next year.

He's making the 2nd one difficult, too.

Fair play Gasquet. Some great play in that 2nd set. Wasn't going to watch it but decided to at the tail end of set 1. Very good play from Gasquet. The overhead in that last game was outstanding.

The players have more integrity than they've been given credit for...

That's true, and I hope we can now suspend these mentions of "tanking."

Gasquet making an effort to do himself proud. Good for him.

Good effort by the guys who had little to gain but pride points: Gasquet and Ferrer. I'm sure it wasn't easy for Novak when his motivation is mostly to get off the court.
