Well, the old cliche certainly applies here - Roger has to win the first set. I can't see him getting on top if Nole settles fast. Having said that, to get to tiebreaks he has to serve immaculately. It isn't beyond him, but his charges to the net were found out in the second set the other day, and also they lacked conviction and wit, eventually...

Yeah, I hope Front was watching. While Rafa was waiting back-stage and the announcer was going through his spiel, he musta tugged both front and back a half a dozen times. It was spectacular, if you like that sort of thing. I know that of all his tics, they're the ones Front likes best! :snigger

As if Ferrer didn't feel bad enough after that loss he then has to shake said soiled hand after the match. Man, that's a bad day at the office. Sounds like an awful match. At work so I missed it, but seems I didn't miss much from either guy. Terrible stats by Nadal and he still won easily. Ferrer has out clowned himself.

Watching him this year, I've seen Fed make more 'Roddick-like' advances on the net than Novak does... lacking conviction describes it well.

Btw, I have a sneaking suspicion Roger will win tonight and I'm most certainly not the type of guy who votes from the heart. I think he'll be really up for it. Loves the venue and the crowd will be really behind him. Tons of Swiss fans fly to London every year for this tournament. Roger's first set last week showed real improvement and if he was practicing his first serves and manages to get a lot in today I think he'll surprise many. Looking forward to watching it later but truthfully as much of a Fed fan as I am, I like Djokovic too so if Fed doesn't do well in the tournament I hope Novak does. I see Del Potro was really pushed today and I think Fed will take him.

Agree on that. Some of them in Paris looked really Roddick-like. Mad demented dashes with no purpose followed by a look of disappoint and mopey look at the ground reaction. And then he does it again a few points later. Needs to cut that out.

True, surface is a bit slower though here, should help Djokovic. Its going to be really tight. Nole needs to be ready to go from the start.

I see Nole has said that Roger might be a bit slower than before - something Roger is quick to deny...

Whether Ferrer is truly gassed or not will be decided in his next two matches vs Wawrinka and Berdych.

Sometimes the truth is not to be spoken. Kind of wonder why Djokovic would say it even though it is obvious. Might as well go along with the "he is still amazing, best ever, very dangerous, etc." talk that you usually get. I sure hope MikeOne doesn't see Nole's comments, it might cause a heart attack.

With Novak, it's like - "Oh yeah, short ball. I need to move forward." The approach is awkward and the volley (if not passed) is either a sitter or chunked off the frame. Never have I seen Fed do that like he has this year.

Roger has been doing it for years. Generally his volleys are still great but the approach shots are terrible.

And you still think Nole wins this in 2?! One thing he should have learned by now - don't piss off the old guy or his fan base.

Fed can't get mad because the younger ones tell the truth. Remember, he did the same thing to Agassi back in the day. I don't recall the exact terminology, but something to the effect that Agassi was on his way out as the newer generation (him in particular) was better. Karma is a be-otch. :snigger

I don't know about non-US countries, but in the US remember that the Tennis Channel is also showing the doubles matches.

In a few minutes, they'll be airing the Bryan brothers vs. Dodig/Melo.

Does he think that he can win an 18th grand slam next year? “The French Open is always going to be hard as long as Rafa Nadal is around,” Federer replied. “But on the other surfaces, if I am playing well, it’s more in my racket than in anybody else’s racket.”

On one hand, I'm glad Roger is adopting that mentality. It's good to show defiance. It's an indicator of motivation.

On the other hand, get real...

The Bryans are up 4-0 in the super breaker. Dodig/Melo really came alive in the 2nd set.

Bryans blow a 4-0 lead and lose the super breaker. Dodig/Melo are tough customers.
