Novak said the ATP physio confirmed when he had MTO it was 'abdominal tear'.....right oblique where your fhand is compromised, that is why he could not rotate on that side,of course he was given pain killers,.he will have scans to determind how bad it is first, before treatment he was speaking to Eurosport.

^ Exactly that's why he was better in set 5 once the painkillers took effect. Or if you're Nadalfan2013, it's 'cos Novak apparently likes to create drama and thereby compromise his fitness by going 5 sets for nothing, 'cos doing that really increases your chances of winning the title.

Right, 'cos it clearly makes a ton of sense to win the first 2 sets and then drag it out to 5 sets just for drama to entertain the likes of you. Pretty sure if he wants to win the title he'd have preferred to win it in 3 sets so, with that in mind, it's pretty obvious he wasn't doing it for fun and wasn't making it up. Ever hear of treatment taking a while to work? Maybe that's why he was better by set 5. Be logical. Like a blind man at a nudist beach, it's not hard.

Fritz was starting to play very well so Djokovic wanted to pretend that it’s only because he’s injured. He always does this as soon as things become close against nobodies. It’s about his invincible aura. Fritz would hit an ace and Djokovic would pretend that he’s going to fall. But then as soon as Djokovic broke in the fifth set he all of a sudden stopped the charade and was perfect...

If it is a tear like he said in the press conference, he can play the matches. The two biggest problem he will face is that he will be limited on the baseline rallies AND if he does play through the abdominal tear, he can make it worse by playing more matches. In addition, he does have to think about the rest of the season, if he decides to play through this tournament.

It will be a big decision because he is 33.5 years old and the time to catch up with the slam record is getting narrower every slam he doesn’t get. The injury really changes things A LOT!

The tournament director just said that Djokovic is definitely playing and he also is scheduled to practice tomorrow. It was on ESPN in a Patrick McEnroe report. Surprise surprise...

On the other side of the token, if you are Milos Raonic, you have to take this golden opportunity to finally beat Djokovic! The courts are playing super quick AND he is injured, so don't fall in the trap that he is not injured (like Fritz did last night).

If a player takes the court as far as I am concerned he/she is fit to play.

It's a tricky decision, but I can't see there's much option but to stay in until he absolutely can't play. As you say, options for Majors start to dwindle, esp. if he doesn't win his best one. He's got 3 months to recover before RG, and I don't even think he has to worry about passing Roger for weeks at #1, due to protected ranking, or can he actually lose points here? In any case, he won't bail, I predict, until he can't swing the racquet. What is he saving it for, Miami?

^ I am speaking from a medical point of view with a ab tear you can make it worse by playing on and be off the tour for awhile before it mends? Gael Monfils had a similar problem and he had to take time out, rest and treatment is the only way it mends.

All in all, I think he will continue to play the tournament for reason above @Moxie and I stated in the thread. The question will be is how severe is the abdominal tear? Will it hamper his forehand side to the point that he can't stretch to that side? Or is it something he can managed throughout the match?

Either way, his draw will not help him at all! Raonic/Zverev/Thiem then Medvedev or Nadal path is not something you want to go through with an abdominal tear. You know for sure Zverev AND Thiem will grind him out to test the injury unlike Taylor Fritz!

Yes it’s the kind of injury you can’t “ cheat” if its serious enough. Can take months to recover if aggravated. Learned the hard way.

Medvedev was cruising, and PMac said Krajinovic looked like he just wanted out. What happened? I thought Daniil was cruising in straights?

This is not an official source but Darren Cahill told ESPN that Goran has spoke to him about Djokovic's status and that they are not certain if he will play or not. Djokovic did not practice today and he is seeking medical opinion for his injury. It looks like Djokovic is taking painkillers for now.
