A really sloppy service game from Meddy trying to serve out the match, comprising of 2 DFs and Borges breaks back.
Borges has not gone away in this game, though Meddy lifted when he had to, Borges serving 4-5
Meddy had 2 MPs though he has lost focus and his return game went AWOL, 5 games all 3rd set
Borges wins 4 games on the trot and will serve for the 3rd 6-5, Meddy you should be in the locker room by now honestly, I know Borges has beaten some quality players to get to this match, but your serve let you down when you were serving for the match and you lost focus
Borges with an Ace seals the 3rd set 7-5, and we are going 4 sets.Well done Borges you deserved that 3rd set!
Meddy found his serve and his mind in the 4th set and is serving 5-1 for the match
Mevedev d Borges 63 76(4) 57 61 well done to Borges who never went away and has defeated good players to get to this match!

In the match between Zverev v Norrie 1 set all ( Zverev 1st set 75, Norrie 2nd set 63)
This match is all tied up with 2 sets all, now going into the 5th set

R16 match with Cameron Norrie and Zverev has become an Epic with the Brit now leading it by 6-5 final set. I smell an upset.

That two handed early taken cross court backhander that Norrie hit in the 10th game reminded me of Jimmy Connors in his hey day! Loads of winners in this game.

and Cameron's missed two attempted drop shots in a row which may be costly, it's 4-2 to Zverev in the breaker!

and a very interested thread over at MensTennisForums regarding:

Grand Slam with the most 5 setters of all.time?

The 2024 Australian Open, by virtue of the Cameron Norrie Vs Alexander Zverev we just witnessed is at 32 right now. That's one more than 1998 Australian Open (31). The record is 34 which was 1983 and 2004 U.S Open's.

Looks pretty much like we are going to see first 4 seeds in the semis. But if you had to choose which higher seed will lose his QF match, who would you pick?

Who has a highest chance of making an upset? Bookies set up the odds. They say Novak has a highest chance of reaching SF. Followed by Alcaraz and Sinner who get similar odds for winning. They give Meddy lowest chances, but still good probability to win his match.

Will there be an upset, what do you think?

I would agree that it will be the top 4 seeds in the semis. Hubi has played really well and if he downs Daniil, it would not be an upset. Carlos has breezed through his draw, but I think Zverev has a better chance of beating him than Rublev does of beating Sinner. Novak has never lost to Fritz, but Taylor gave him all kinds of headaches the last time they played each other in Oz.

Meddy is ripe for an upset. He has looked shaky at times during this slam.
It's most logical choice as Mr. Spock would say. I would probably pick the same, but I have hard time to see Meddy lose at this stage and miss a chance to go toe to toe against Alcaraz again. Though, Hubi can be a tough customer.

I feel Zverev will be gassed out again for Alcaraz. Germain always plays too long matches in early rounds and this year AO is no exception.

Sinner should take care of Rublev, italian is on another level at the moment, could go all the way.

Fritz pleseantly surprised by beating the Greek, but I'm not sure how good of a measure is that these days. If Novak is on top of his game, Fritz should not pose a threat, but it's tennis, anything can happen on a given day.

I hope Hubi wins a slam one day, so we can at least say that Federer's last match was against a slam champion. That would be the cherry on top of Fed's legacy.

Novak can beat Fritz with his B/C game. It just makes for a scratchier match like the last time they played here. It’s good that he has another day match. He played great in his last one. :lol6:

Yes, he played great. Gave french a bicycle instead of baguettes haha. Novak better come out sharp again, because match against Sinner should go the distance.
