Multiple Major Winner
Great Stat.Nope…the answer is Andy Murray.
Murray won the 2012 US Open against Djokovic then went on to reach the 2013 AO Final but losing to Djokovic.
Medvedev has the same path but of course he is not facing Djokovic in this year’s AO.
I will not try to look far ahead but can you imagine the pressure that Medvedev will feel and face if he were to meet Nadal in the final?
However, if he does win the AO title against Nadal here are the potential accomplishments from him:
- A second straight slam for him (Open Era record)
- denying a Big Three member of winning his 21st slam (B2B slams too!)
- beating Djokovic AND Nadal in consecutive Slam finals (will be the first player to do so).
-Finally, becoming the first male player since Andy Roddick to become number 1 player not named Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray.
A LOT of pressure but A LOT of accomplishments to gain for him.
Long ways to go though…
Here is another one in the Open Era:
Back in 1974 Jimmy Connors won his first Major, the AO, he then as a World Team Tennis player was barred from playing the French Open, however he won Wimbledon & the USO, botb over Ken Rosewall. So after winning his very first Major, Jimbo went on to win his next 2, so 3 for 3 in 1974
In addition, he made 3 Major finals in 1975 (losing all 3), again skipping the French.
So after reaching and winning his 1st Major final, Jimbo made 5 more consecutive finals.
