that's his choice mate
Yea OK but its not he's choice to play as many hard court events its ATP has too many events on the surface, so nadal feels like he needs to play on the surface. Like Wtf Nadal did not want to play, last year but ATP made him and then he got injured.

Nobody makes anybody play mate. What the tournaments do is wave a big sports bag full of cash around, and some players can't help themselves.

I’m surprised Djoke is back already. I think he should have rested and rehabbed his arm a bit longer.

Given that during Bercy last year he admitted he still wasn't even hitting the ball with his right hand, that he admitted he was probably forcing a comeback early to play in Oz, and that he had some "procedure" on his playing arm just a month ago, it's hard to see this choice as wise. Hopefully he knows his own body, and isn't just sick of sitting on the sidelines, watching his ranking drop.

Agreed. His scheduling is his choice. He complained bitterly about the prevalence of hard courts on the tour... and then scheduled his comeback on a hard court in Acapulco of all places.
Acapulco isn't a terrible choice, if he were healthy. It's conveniently located to IW, relative to Spain. Though I suppose one can speculate that, if he'd taken the extra couple of weeks, he might not have reinjured the leg/hip.

Monfils retired today in IW. Hurt his back. That's a shame. He's been on a good run.

Interesting choice of metaphor. No moralizing from you, eh? Roger has had his "fair share" of injuries? I don't know if there is even a "fair share," but let's remember this: He's 36, he's been a professional tennis player for going on 20 years, played 1394 matches and never had to retire out of one of them. Played I think 67 Majors before he missed one. Is that usual? I know you like to think he walks on water, but he doesn't. At a certain point, you have to recognized that he's been blessed with unusually good health, beyond his great tennis skills.

I haven't read anything after this post and I know it was a couple weeks ago, but I remember one baseball analyst once describing health as a skill; in other words, according to that view, the above is a false dichotomy. Health isn't (only) luck or a "blessing," it is something a player can--at least to some degree--develop and cultivate.

Of course I think it is both. Sometimes players are just unlucky or have a problematic body type, or a play style that is more conducive to injury. I don't want to blame Delpo for his woes. But I do think that when you look at someone like Roger, it isn't only or even mainly luck or being blessed. He has been very smart about his body, and he has developed the ability to stay healthy like a skill.

In other words, I don't think it is all that accurate to say that Rafa has been less lucky than Roger. Maybe that is partially true, but it could also be said that Roger has been better at staying healthy.
