Rafa has won twice IW and I wouldn't mind if he would win the third one but if I would have to chose I'd rather he would win Miami, it would be :woohoos

Actually, Nadal has won three IW titles and ironically he won all three titles in odd years (2007, 2009, and 2013). In addition, he has reached all four finals in odd years (2007, 2009, 2011, and 2013). So there's something about Nadal in IW every odd year since 2007.

As for Miami, I think I gave up on him winning Miami Masters. I just think when a player lose four finals in one particular tournament, then I don't see him winning that tournament ever.

You don't want to use IW as the barometer. Rafa will surely not win IW with the current form.
He may even exit at or before QFs.

The real barometer would be to see his form in the clay matches played in the clay season.

In 2013 Nadal was dragging a knee and moving poorly but still beat Federer easily at Indian Wells (and beat Del Potro in an absolute edge-of-your-seat thriller).
Nadal is definitely moving better than that now.

Nadal has never needed to be in peak form to win titles (see 2010 Wimbledon, 2011 Roland Garros, 2013 Roland Garros and 2014 Roland Garros) because they were all examples of Nadal not moving at his best and still winning.
Heck, he made the final of 2014 AO, and that's his worst slam event and he had to play with a big hand-blister.

But just look at 2013, because people were shocked that Nadal won Indian Wells.
2013 was the ultimate example of Nadal destroying the public opinion (2014 RG was also a great example of that, with 8 of 10 ESPN tennis experts tipping Djokovic to win).

Nadal post-match-
"I had the hope of winning here and I prepared very well for this so it's objective achieved."
"I have no physical problems now and I hope to continue like this for the rest of the year."
"In the past I was able to get back to my best level after injury, do not see why this time I won't get it."
"65 titles are many. Many more than I had ever dreamed."
"The match shouldn't have started when it did. At that moment the court wasn't playable, it was dangerous for our health."
"Today I've played my best match here & that's good news, playing my best tennis in a final."
"There is no title that isn't special and even more when I was coming from a period without winning."

So Federer is ten behind Lendl, Nadal is tied with Borg and Sampras, and Djokovic is one away from 50 and tied with Becker. Interesting stuff!

Made a Most ATP Tournament Titles quiz if anyone wants to give it a shot. 20 titles or more.

Quiz

You spelled a certain Brazillian 3-time French Open champion wrong, by the way.

I did the quiz - five minutes is a killer! But I got 37 of 40 correct, so not too shabby. The three I missed were all in the bottom ten or so.

Opps it's true, I forgot IW win 2007. Then I'm right to say that Rafa would love a lot more to win Miami and I hope he will ;)

Hmmmm, I don't think the same way, it doesn't matter how many times they lose semis or finals if they can reach there it means they play well in that particular tournament but also it depens how they play or how thir opponent plays that match

Nadal was so close to winning Miami in 2011, 3rd set-tie-breaker vs Djokovic.
And Nadal has huge fanfare in Miami, but he's very close with the tournament director of Indian Wells, so he probably is a bit more motivated at Indian Wells and gives his all to that tournament and may have less energy left at Miami (and the scheduling doesn't help).

You are right about he is very close with the director, the scheduling and the huge fanfare but I'm sure that Rafa has that "thorn" in his profesional career and I don't have any doubt that he will keep trying :velo:

Yep, I miss Kieran but to be clear I don't have anything vs #1 and 2 ranked players's fans (I
like everyone here and I understand to each with his own theme and fav) unless there is some kind of provoking......:devil

Well it's a good thing Roger kept at it trying to win the FO! The rest of the tour in the name of Soderling helped him out in '09! I hope Roger bought him something nice for his upset of Nadal? I probably would have had it ready at the final! That was all he needed to complete his career GS! :p  :dodgy:

I am sorry I didn't mean you have something against #1 and #2..unlike yourself. I don't like everyone including some of #3 fans ( not speaking of you a course)

Folks should remember that only #1 is missing just one Masters (Cincy).
#2 and #3 both are missing two Masters each. #2 (MC and Rome) and #3 (Miami and Paris).

LOL Thanks for pointing it out. I always have trouble with Gustabo Cutain. I don't know why. Some names give me fits no matter how easy or hard they are.

It's not the first time a discrepancy was uncovered and needed clearing up! Sometimes it takes decades to fix! Years ago when Martina Navratilova was approaching Everts winning streak of 56, it was discovered that they had included a w/o for many years so the number "to best" was lowered to 55! Of course Martina blew that out of the water with '74,' going from Jan. to Dec. without a loss until AO (@ end of year) in '84 SF to Sukova! :eyepop  :dodgy:

Great Stat poster GSM.. thanks:clap

I wouldn't be surprised if either of these top 3 ranked players win those remaining titles this year..

Mr Tented , how many weeks have these 3 players(Djoker, Fed and Rafa ) been ranked in the top 3 spots.. Its probably longer than Borg, Connors and McEnroe
