Ana does not have that killer instinct. Very few do. If she did, she would win more often.

 I don't know how a player gets to win a GS without having 'killer instict'. Was it a fluke then?

Ana hasn't been to a slam semi-final since her RG win, so please explain this killer instinct she has. It is like she won a slam and forgot how to play the game. She has taken the best part of 6 years to finally start righting that ship. I like Ana as much as the next person, but still until she starts making it to the semis and finals of a slam or say Miami, Madrid, etc. on a consistent basis, well....

Why are you singling out Ana ? Certainly there have been other promising players who have either reached a GS final and they've either played poorly befitting of their talent or lacked that 'killer instict'. It speaks volumes that Ana, at least, has achieved one GS victory where other female players fallen by the wayside.

I don't think its a knock on Ana. It's more that she HAD a "killer instinct" before her slam win. She was for about year making the finals or winning BIG tournaments. A lot of players have more consistency over years but fail to ever win the big title because they never really have that killer instinct. Ana on the other hand seemed to play really free and strong before she won, then once she did it was like she started to crumble under the pressure.

Ana's game did fall away since the 2008 RG final victory but for some here to say, that she does not have 'killer instict' is absurd.

Which 'Very few' players on the tour today has the 'Killer Instict' ?

Another player that I would hope to see win is Aga Radwanska. She has a good mix of shots in her repertoire and is always thinking. Plus she does not scream or screech out there. Beautiful to watch when she's confident.

Serena, Vika, and Pova have a killer stinct. I am not including everyone so no offense to a few I left out.

Although not perfectly correlated, there is a good correlation between wins and that killer mentality. People who don't mind losing, lose more than their skills dictate. Sloane is an example of someone who should win more. It does not destroy her to lose. You can see how much Serena, Vika, and Pova hate to lose. They fight like their lives depend on the outcome. Mentality of a champion.

But I don't have any real faves, Kiu. I just want to see some competition for Serena this year. Otherwise I won't bother to watch women's tennis.

Here is the deal! I see in players like Serena, Vika, and Maria that I want to win and I will throw everything and the kitchen sink at you to do it attitude and game. You see it! Ana is kind of like well if I get the win awesome if not meh. Why I am singling her out is because I know she is better than that. I will add someone to the mix to make you feel better Petra. She is someone who has the game and should be doing more than she is, but she just doesn't have it all together at the moment.

She won Wimbledon two times, mate. Would you be a believer if she had won another GS other than the Big W?

No, she is far too inconsistent. I like Petra, but again the drive isn't there like a Serena, Vika or Maria.

Funny you should say that as I was just thinking the exact same thing about Sabine Lisicki. Always seems to get Psyched up and do well at the Big W but not the other three Slams.

When Sabine learns to control her emotions, maybe she could win a GS,her best chance to me would be at Wimbledon, still there are area's in her game, other players expose. Also Sabine has had her fair share of injuries,at critical times in her career..

Do you mean where she almost lost composure and almost tearful in the 2013 final vs Bartoli? That was really tough to watch because she was a better player than Bartoli but the french Lady rose to the occasion (after the first couple of games). Agreed I would love to see Sabine win a Wimbly. The potential is there for sure.
