Sorana Cirstea has withdrawn from the USO. Sorana will miss the rest of the tour in 2024, for the last 6 months she has suffered badly with Plantar Cystitis and has decided to have surgery to solve the aches and pains
Renata Zarazua (MEX) moves into the main draw,
Anna Bondar (HUN) the first player out

Taylor Townsend playing one of her best singles matches this year, leads Ostapenko 5-1 in the 2nd set, won the 1st set 62, Osta doing her usual " cant find the court with her ground strokes and has become a UFE matchine :)
Well done Taylor who came into this tournament as a LL, d Ostapenko 62 61!
I have always maintained that variety helps a player in their overall games, Osta has flat ground strokes on both wings, though she dosent use slice, topspin in her game, a player with variety can upset the rhythm of a hard flat ground stroker, seen that over the many years on the WTA tour, Ash Barty was a great example of how she can upset a player with the variety in her game, like Taylor did today, she also has variety in her game and uses it to her advantage, the worst think you can to with a hard flat ground stoker is give them pace, they just feed off the pace full stop.
A career high for Taylor after making the QFs in Toronto she goes up to No 52 in the live rankings

Just saw video of Elena Rybakina practicing in Cinncy, hoping Elena and her 'immune system' allows her to play

Kalinskaya retires in her match against Anisimova, had the trainer out, looked like she was struggling in the heat
Anisimova wins via retirement lead 62 before Anna retired
Kalinskaya has been withdrawing a lot in her matches of late, I know she had a wrist injury a couple of weeks ago, though maybe her coach has to look at her training schedule off court, eg gym, she appears to me not that strong in area's that she should be.I hope she is not turning out to be another Elina Rybakina
The reason for Anna's retirement was dizziness

Another retirement,
Azarenka retired in her match against Stearns 46 42
Apparently a ham string injury, hoping it is not that serious could see her USO hopes dashed.

5 American players have made it through to the QFs at Toronto WTA1000 today
It could be 6 American players if Coco Gauff wins her match Shnaider

Coco better turn this into a track meet and get that big gal moving. It's the only way to turn this around. Otherwise her 1st time being the #1 seed at a master's event will result in her early demise.

Not to be I have been impressed by Diana since Bad Homberg tournament, she can also play doubles, she was in the gold medal match at the Olympics where she won the Silver Medal
Shaider (14) d Gauff (1) 64 61, Coco had 42 UFE? in 2 sets of tennis that is just woeful!
BTW Gauff has a 4 match losing streak against Top 50 opponents, Coco needs to address problems in her game, to me she hasnt played well since the AO., being the USO champion she needs a lot of work, going on her present game she wont be defending her title at this years USO, lets see what she can do to address problems in her game at Cinncy tournament.

I heard she punked out at the OG. Her and Novak have 3000 pts to defend in the next 4 weeks. If she doesn't do well at Cinci, that will be a foretelling of the USO. She might drop outside the top 10 if she doesn't get it together quick, fast and in a hurry.

Coco has to get herself together ASAP, lets see what happens at Cinncy she has to do well there

2nd QF match just started Saba vs Anisimova, when Amanda is 'on' her game she is one of the purest and clean strikers of the ball in the womens tour, injuries have stalled her career sad to say.
