TNT seems like a weird choice. I understand why the Slams would go to the broadcast networks. It allows a wider audience to watch the important tournaments, and assures that tennis can bring in new fans. It can't all be Tennis Channel. But ESPN, and now TNT, are part of subscriptions. And, as you say, ESPN has often been terrible, especially during the AO. They have stopped their coverage in the middle of the night, for no reason, to switch to wrestling or something random. When the only people up watching ESPN in the middle of the night were the people who wanted to watch the AO!I use Tennis Channel for outside of slam matches and the French Open. I believe the Olympics will be on NBC. Beginning next year, the FO will move to TNT.
Anything is an upgrade over ESPN's coverage of the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. I really miss the days when the AO was the only slam on ESPN, and I'd get to watch the FO and Wimbledon on NBC, and the US Open on CBS (which was the best).
As I say, I get the point of making the Majors available to a wider audience, but where the networks or broader audience cable channels don't want to cover the Majors well, they should let TC pick up the slack. As it is, they do get the repeats. Anyway, ESPN's Wimbledon was better covered than they've done in a while. A friend of mine is English, living in the US and subscribes to the BBC and she much prefers their coverage of Wimbledon.
Don Fabio is right that watching the Majors in the US is like higher math.
