No cramp today for Carlos, so a different result. Incredible how’s quickly this kid learns how to handle the big occasions. Great match, hand it to Novak, he might have squeaked it out if the youngster tightened up again. The first set was horrendous for Carlos but hugely impressed by him winning the second set tiebreak and stream rolling the old guy in the third. Tightened up again in the fourth but was again huge in winning the fifth.

He is massive for tennis. We need it to be competitive and we see clearly here the difference between a competitive final at a slam and what we’ve gotten used to. Tennis won today, big time!:clap::clap:
Fully agree. We need competition at all slams!! Whoever wins it has to earn it, not the one-sided finals we have seen for the best part of the last 20 years.

Carlos has 'arse in spades' he just plays some points that other players would not, he loves to remain offfensive and comes forward where ever possible
He was very impressive the way he upped the aggression again in the fifth. Kind of balked a little in the fourth and Novak is still too good and can’t to be given chances like that..

That game was the cornerstone of the match.
If that was the cornerstone game, the 2nd set was the cornerstone set of the match. Carlos winning that tiebreak was reminiscent of Novak winning that tiebreak in the 2021 French Open. Just like I knew Novak was going to beat Rafa when he won the tiebreak, I knew Carlos was going to beat Novak when he won that 2nd set tiebreak.

sorry I'm confused. In the last 20yrs we've had great finals. 5 set wars. Only a few have been genuinely one sided. Perhaps the worst being RG '08. What am I missing?

Cheers to everyone and congrats to Alcaraz. I am not surprised he won as far as his tennis is concerned but losing the first set the way he did and keeping the composure afterwards, knowing who is across the net, the difficulty of the task at hand...That was impressive. Good thing I did not have a horse in the race so it was easy to watch and enjoy . Stay safe and healthy everyone !

I think they're referring to the easy ones in the last 3 years or so. Djoke played Matteo and Nick here. Tits at AO, then Ruud at RG. Nads played Ruud last year.

Some years we get great finals, and some years we get duds. It all evens out. Besides, didn't we have 5 of the greatest finals at Wimbledon since the turn of the century (01, 08, 09, 14, 19)? Then, we have this year and 07, while not as great as those, still good 5-set finals.
