The first 4-5 days have most matches to get the two draws down to 64 then 32 players. The doubles and other events can be shafted and delayed if needs be. I remember Wimbledon where the whole of the first week was virtually a wash out, and no play on Sunday - they finished on time.

This is not an emergency yet..

Wimbledon is maddening because for a hundred + year run tournament, with two roofed stadiums and a friggin long history of bad weather & rain delays, you would think they would have a full blown contingency plan for just such a situation. Two roofed stadiums.

But of course have a player wear half an inch too much fabric of another color than white and Wimbledon officials are on that to escort them off court and threaten them with expulsion.

Wimbledon tradition be hanged.

They've survived well over 100 years w/o a roof! They've had bad weeks; 1985 comes to mind! The water was running down the stairs like a river! The event still didn't run over by more than a day & that's skipping 1st Saturday of the fortnite! That's part of the luck of the event; getting "your" match in while others fall behind! It's been terrible over the decades, but somehow we've only lost 1 tournament due to COVID a couple years ago! Change isn't always necessary! They didn't go to optic yellow balls until the 80's! The TB in '76 was at 8 all except in the 5th! Clothing's still white, but style has been overlooked! :astonished-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

I don't think he's saying they should cover every court, but they should absolutely have a contingency plan and break tradition of just 3 matches on the main show courts to maximize use of the covered courts they do have.
Thank you, good to know reading comprehension is not lost entirely.

It’s like when you go on vacation, you dont want to lug an umbrella around but if it rains, damn it, use it !!

I know @Jelenafan didn’t imply covering every court.

My question was intended as a general/theoretical discussion of the idea. Everyone is OK with two courts being covered, and now with all this rain, there’s the desire for a third — but at what point might it become an indoor event?

Andy Murray on Roger Federer attending his match ( source The Tennis Letter)

" I saw him briefly when I came off the court....It's brilliant to have him around the event. I hope he;ll be around. I'm pretty sure he;ll be around the sport a lot. He loves tennis. Great to have him back here".

Oh please we cant control the weather lol! it is not Wimbledon's official's fault they are doing their best under the circumstances with only 2 courts with roofs, yes they could have started matches earlier on outside courts, they did cover them, then uncovered them and the rain started falling again, it was a correct decision to stop play for the day on outside courts

The schedule is out and it's as crazy as allways. Lots of 2nd round matches incl Djokovic before the finishing of the delayed ones...hopeless
IIRC it was this same “tradition” (daily scheduled matches on a court always start first over a rain delayed one) that resulted in the infamous 2007 Wimbledon 5 set match between Rafa and Robin Soderling that took five days to conplete. 5 days.

So you’re saying every court needs a cover.
