19 Year old Frenchie Luca Van Assche beat Fokina in 3 sets today 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 and is into the Qtrs at Hamburg reaching on ATP live ranking a career high # 61.

Friday he mets Zverev which should be a good popcorn match. Must be weird for 26 year old Zverev that so many of his opponents are younger then him these days.

Wait! What? What did he do wrong? I’m missing something here. Is he currently coaching a player and could be compromised?

I honestly think this year will be last meaningful Citi Open. Next year, no one of note is going to enter because it will be held at the same time as the Paris Olympics (where all the top players will be). I highly doubt the tournament will be continued in 2025, with Toronto and Cincy (Charlotte?) both expanding to 2 weeks.

These July clay tournaments, especially Hamburg and Umag, are going to be juicy next year, as we will see a lot of top players enter them to prepare for the Olympics.

I see Garin is leading Ruud 5-1 in the first. I looked up the H2H, and it's 3-1 to Garin, I was surprised to see. His most recent win over Ruud was at IW this year, the others on clay in 2019. I've only just started watching but Ruud is a UFE machine.

Hey @Front242 Fronty, I play tennis with an ex Aussie ATP player who told me some wild stories about the tour about 10 years ago (nothing probably we didnt expected). He had a very interesting story about your boy Robin Soderling. Apparently his " illiness" that took him off the tour didnt occur by "happenstance" if you know what I mean! Send me a pm next week and I will give you the details..

I don’t know what happened in the 1st, but he’s now up 1-6, 6-2, 5-1.

I didn't see the rest, so I guess Garin cooled off and showed why he's #120 and Ruud is #4?
Sometimes even the top players get off to a slow start..it's typical .. everyone CAN'T play like Graf or Swiatek jajaja

Well this a wasted trip to Germany! After winning last wk. in Sweden, why didn't he just rest? After that win, a loss' close behind! What a moron! ;)
I don't know why he even played Bastad. It was worth 250. He just reached the QF''s of Wimby. Why not take a break and just play the 500 at Hamburg

You could ask the same question of Ruud, since he reached the Bastad finals and I imagine is still planning to play both Masters.

This is why players like Fritz bomb out early in Majors! They have success in smaller events and by the time they hit larger events, they're mentally out of it as well as physically challenged! It happens all the time so I don't understand why "note" isn't taken by other players & coaches?! :astonished-face::fearful-face:
