Don’t know if this is the right place but has anyone listened to the Jimmy Connors podcast, Advantage Conners?
I kind of like it but listened recently to the episode where Bjorn Borg turned up, and there were interesting reminiscences in between long bouts of nostalgia, the two fogeys reminding each other that they made the modern game, that they built Indian Wells, that they built tennis, that tennis today isn’t so interesting as it was when they played, etc.
I was a little disappointed with Borg when he lowered himself to that level, but it was good to hear from him too. Example, they talked a few times about how their games were both very similar - they glossed over the significant differences - while also a few times complaining that modern greats like Rafa and Novak play too similarly to each other (again glossing over the significant differences).
Jimbo is prone to this sort of stuff in general, over-emphasising his fist pump reputation, in comparison to the modern game, which can happen to anybody who’s stuck in the past. Grandad thinks the young people’s music is just noise. Grandad also tells you that his grandad thought Frank Sinatra was a tuneless immoral punk.
It’s an interesting podcast, curious to see the great Jimmy navigating the airwaves…
