Domi just doesn't look right to me. Pushing the ball around instead of stepping into the court and hitting these strokes w/ authority (even if you make errors). I don't know if that's a byproduct of low confidence, no match play or both.

Well, my theory on this not lasting from tournament to tournament is this is a very new position for a lot of players, there isn’t a Roger, Nadal, and Djokovic gauntlet where their journey is likely to end, and they are making it much farther in these tournaments and don’t know how to manage that new reality in their tennis world. I’m sure they will figure it out quickly especially if they are hungry for titles.

Dominic needs to catch the next flight to Mallorca and go practice with Rafa for a few weeks.

Give Dominic a break he has just come back from another dose of COVID, apart from no match play, his wrist,he needs match play.He has been off the tour for nearly 11 months.
Dominic has received a WC into Estoril tournament next week
I did not expect him to go far in Belgrade tournament at all.

At least, Thiem won a set this time. He fought hard. He will get there. He does need to start being a bit more aggressive with his shots even if he misses by a bit, it also might throw his opponents off on their shots out of fear. He has one of the nastiest backhands in the game. He needs to use it better.

People are already writing Novak off since he's only played a handful of matches! People are like that; IDIOTS at times! :shushing-face: :astonished-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

A bit surprised that Seb Korda going out to a Spanish qualifer Carlos Taberner ( who I have never heard of ) 63 60 in Barcelona.
Taberner plays FAA next.

Nothing out of the ordinary IMO! Going to clay, we're going to have a number of upsets to look forward to! Way back when, many players knew their limitations and wouldn't even bother going! Fritz, FAA, & others will have a tough time! Norrie survived today in Barcelona! :shushing-face::astonished-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

Seb Korda played in MC? so it was not his first match on clay

I don't think anybody with good common sense is completely writing off the #1 player. I'm sure he will get back to some kind of normal before EOY.

I get all of that MM. Maybe it's just me, but if he's going to lose, I'd like to see him go out doing it his way w/ his arsenal sorta like Stan did in MC.

It looks like Barcelona's weather will be damp as there will be a lot of potential of rain during the week.

If it holds up, this is just a mind boggling decision from the country of Great Britain. I wonder on what will the other players will say about this (more than likely nothing).

This isn't like the old days! Too much $$ & ATP pts are t/b gotten! No way will the players unite & skip the biggest event of the season in support! ;-)

Agree and about Thiem too. As for Novak I don't give him much chances this RG. You may say it is too early, but sometimes you just feel it's not going to happen. He should get his game to a level where he is ready for Wimbledon and a good run in RG like QF or SF would add to that, but if he faces Tsitsipas or Nadal in SF for example I'm not going to back him up if he even reaches that far..

Funny how Thiem is portrayed as a clay court specialist, but Tsitsipas already has better success than him on clay. Maybe Thiem went deep in RG a few times more, but he never won anything important on clay.
I have to hope you are right about Novak's chances at RG, but we'll see how he rounds into form. I'm sure he'll want to be ready for Wimbledon, but I'm not going to sell him short yet on clay.

As to Thiem, I don't think he's especially seen just as a clay specialist. He's sort of in the Wawrinka mold. I don't think so much of Wawrinka, but I still think less of Thiem, and it remains to be seen if he'll come back to winning form. He's basically fallen off the map since winning the USO, and that's not all about injury. It's going to take a lot of strength of will to get back to his status as a "player." Still, you shouldn't undersell two trips to the RG finals. He beat a lot of good players to get there, both times. Tsitsipas has 2 MC titles, and a RG final, but some way to go to be the 3rd best thing on clay, IMO.

I see Thiem lost today. Not wholly unexpected. I haven't seen the match, but not unexpected that he has a lot of work to do.
