As for Barcelona Open, I expect Tsitsipas to ride his confidence and momentum into the title. I am curious to see on how Alcaraz will respond to the early loss at MC.

Also, Ruud will want to have a better result here than what he had at MC.

Agree with your thoughts regarding Ruud,I felt he was very flat in MC,hopefully he will do better in Barcelona

I think Ruud and Alcaraz are examples of what happens when you don’t play smart. Alcaraz won his biggest tournament and probably should have taken sometime to digest it before hopping into another tournament. Ruud well he made the final of the biggest tournament of his career went and had dental surgery and hopped off to Monte Carlo. Both probably should have waited to start in Barcelona.

This is an appealing story about Tommy Robredo, who starts his final tournament today in Barcelona.

You do realize that by giving a reference to the big 3 you are giving a compliment to Nadal!

That's a joke right? Of the Big 3 or 4, Rafa was the most likely over the years to win something like the FO, then shut it down for the rest of the season! He's always been the one to win a few clay events and skip Wimbledon altogether! If he's upset at Wimbledon or USO, he might skip the HC summer and maybe show up at USO! The YEC isn't even on his radar; hence no victories! :face-with-tears-of-joy::face-with-hand-over-mouth::partying-face::confetti-ball:

I think we should give the youngster a pass. I don't think anyone and himself thought he would get to the final.today

That's the thing! Any serious run and today's players need rest from fatigue or injury! It's so weird and getting worse! There won't be any of these clowns challenging the seasonal ATP point record of Djokovic that's for sure! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy::partying-face::confetti-ball:

I agree with Margaret...give the kid a break. That was the run of his career so far, and who knows if he picked up a niggle. Has to have been a mentally and emotionally exhausting week, anyway. He's about to go into the meat-and-potatoes part of the clay season, with his first direct entry to RG. The smart money says go in good and ready.

Novak will most likely play in form Djere in R2 and then possibly Kecmanovic or Thiem, though Kecmanovic looks like like more probable option. Not an easy start to a 250 tournament.
Thiem plays Millman tomorrow. Not expecting a lot from Thiem. Novak still not playing, as he's seeded #1. This is where I wonder if his seed doesn't hurt him. He's only played 4 matches this year, so far. As I said, he's trying to jump into a season that is far ahead of him, in terms of matches, and even in Belgrade, the competition will have matches on court that he doesn't have. I wonder if he could have/should have asked for an earlier start. Even on home turf, he's got a fairly hard draw for a 250.

Maybe he should have started in Marocco given the absence from competition if there was a possibility to play there due to local rules. Yeah, he has a tough draw. I expect him to beat Djere and then he gets to play most likely Kecmanovic who is in best form of his career so far. That will be an interesting match. I feel like he needs to reach at least final to start feeling good again on the court, which given the draw will not be an easy task. He said in press conference yesterday that he is using every spare moment to get physically fit for demanding play on clay so we shall see this week where he is at the moment.

Morocco only looks like a good idea in retrospect. I'm sure he was trying to keep some dignity in this comeback. Long way to go to RG yet, but fitness and match-toughness are not the same thing. I expect by Madrid he'll be finding his game. Don't expect the same for Thiem, though.

Agree and about Thiem too. As for Novak I don't give him much chances this RG. You may say it is too early, but sometimes you just feel it's not going to happen. He should get his game to a level where he is ready for Wimbledon and a good run in RG like QF or SF would add to that, but if he faces Tsitsipas or Nadal in SF for example I'm not going to back him up if he even reaches that far..

Funny how Thiem is portrayed as a clay court specialist, but Tsitsipas already has better success than him on clay. Maybe Thiem went deep in RG a few times more, but he never won anything important on clay.
