I don't think anybody with good common sense is completely writing off the #1 player. I'm sure he will get back to some kind of normal before EOY.
I think he could be to some kind of good form before the end of the clay season. He could well be a force again by Wimbledon. I don't think it will take until the EOY.

People are already writing Novak off since he's only played a handful of matches! People are like that; IDIOTS at times! :shushing-face: :astonished-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:
Absolutely. We’ve seen that it’s foolish to write off any of the Big 3 at any time, that they can suddenly spark to life with a venom and sweep all before them. I think Novak will be ready for Paris, and that’s all that matters. He’ll settle. MS tourneys are only warm ups for the likes of him and Rafa…

If it holds up, this is just a mind boggling decision from the country of Great Britain. I wonder on what will the other players will say about this (more than likely nothing).

I haven’t seen this reported in any reputable media site (I never heard of Sportico and the story is behind a paywall) but I doubt this will happen. If it does, it’s not a good thing. I would hope that other players would speak up against it, and even boycott Wimbledon. A boycott has taken place before, and I believe the men’s and women’s tours should have boycotted Dubai in 2009 when they barred Shahar Peer for being Israeli. I felt it was a disgrace that players didn’t stand beside her.

But I don’t think it’ll happen that Russian players will be banned from entering Wimbledon. I’d be very surprised…

Tsitsipas has 2 MC titles, and a RG final, but some way to go to be the 3rd best thing on clay, IMO.
He will win more and get there. Clay is where his game is at best and many more years are in front of him.

Wimbledon is holding its annual press conference a week from today,April 26th,so I assume any major announcement, regarding this years event if they are banning Russian players from playing would be made then.

It would be very strange, wouldn’t it? And counter-productive, because we can’t entice people to the “Free World” if our freedom comes at the cost of actual freedom to hold a different opinion. Or that people are being forced to give an opinion, when they don’t want to. We’re trending that way, unfortunately, in the west, but I doubt the UK government will drop the ball on this. I hope they don’t!

I agree with your thoughts....it certainly will be a sad day in tennis if the players from Russia and Belarus are banned from playing at this year's Wimbledon

Well the website was correct. Very unfortunate turn of events..

Wimbledon 2022: Russian & Belarusian players banned from tournament
This is an unfortunate development. I can understand the ATP & WTA boycotting events held in these two countries, since they are where the military offensives come from, but to ban members of those countries from competing in other countries is inappropriate. It’s not as if Medvedev, Rublev, and Khachanov are Russian generals. For all we know, they may be completely against what Putin has done, yet find themselves relegated to the sidelines. To paraphrase Dylan, these players are only pawns in the game.

The thing with this is, it has absolutely no effect on Putin at all. I can imagine that sanctions might put the squeeze on his cronies, and even on himself, and I can imagine this might influence him to barter for a peace that somehow he can sell as victory, but Putin doesn'y give a shit about the poor in Russia - why should he care about the rich, if they're not personally making him richer?

He now gets to use this ban as a propaganda tool, as evidence to his people that west is not free, that it's oppressing Russians everywhere, and that Mother Russia is being bullied and needs to stand firm. All the old wastrel commie rhetoric that appeals to their romantic notion of their country...

We really don't know how long it will take. Depends on how many matches he can play and win in the next few months, no? Right now he's out there struggling in his home event against his countryman.

Here in the States we have just as poor leadership, but it's hard to feel sorry for either country due to the complicity of it's citizens! We allow them to dictate and break laws; actually reelecting them again and again! The same is happening in Russia when something should have been done but wasn't years ago! :shushing-face::yawningface::angry-face::face-with-symbols-on-mouth:

I can't believe they decided to go this way. After they floated it a few weeks back, I thought they got enough negative reaction to walk it back. Plus, that was in the emotional earlier stages of the war. I don't see how even if, say, Medvedev were to win Wimbledon it would materially or even propaganda-wise, help Putin.

Yeah, I've been watching this. He's still looking pretty ordinary out there.

Yep. And he's going to need some help from Djere to even get this to a decider. When is the last time we said this about the World #1?

Help ordered and help received as Djere makes some critical mistakes in the TB. Going to a decider.

Fiero425 is going to love this:)

Andy Murray has been given a wild card into Madrid
Andy has been practicing on clay, feeling good and has decided that he wants to play competitively prior to the grass. So he will play Madrid and possibly Rome before coming back to the UK to prepare for the grass season.
