Back to the matches! Watching Sofia SF with these 2 new stars, Sinner & Rune! This might be the 1st of many meetings! I'm sure when Borg defeated Connors in their 1st meeting back in '73 wasn't thought of as a starting pt. for a lasting rivalry! :shushing-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy::fearful-face:

Rune vs. Alcaraz in the first round of Astana. Nice.

I remember the name Roman Safiullin because he began showing up on "highest ranked under X age" lists for awhile, then disappeared. In fact, I mentioned him in this thread from 2015.

I saw this when I was filling out the draw challenge. Also, Norrie v. Kokkinakis first round in Japan. I picked the Aussie, but may live to regret that. Some good matches to come in both next week.

Wow, good for you. I actually heard some people calling out, "Go, Roman!" in the match today. He might actually have a fan base. Anyway, he seems to have featured more this year, so I guess we'll see what 2023 brings for him. He handled himself reasonably well v. Novak today. Actually broke him back when Novak was serving for the match, to eventually get to the tb. Just could deal with the pressure points, not surprisingly. But all-in-all a pretty good performance, given he was playing Novak, and that he's still just outside of the top 100.

Kudos to Nishioka for winning Seoul. He defeated Shapovalov in the final. Left hander from Japan with height of only 170cm is a joy to watch when he plays his best.

Same for Marc-Andrea Hüsler over Rune in Sofia final today! A lefthander beat our hot Dane in straight sets! Good match though! :astonished-face: :fearful-face:

Djokovic won in Tel Aviv in straights over Cilic. I was wondering who @don_fabio roots for when they play.
That's a good question. Well my mother was born and raised in Serbia and my father is croatian, so who should I root for? :) It's much easier to root for Novak, he is very reliable, though if Cilic is playing any other foreign player I'll root for Cilic. More than a fan of any player I consider myself as a fan of this sport.

OMG, WTF has happened to FAA? He goes down in straight sets to old man RBA in Astana's 1st round! Wow! The season too long for him? :astonished-face:
These Canadian players have to have the weirdest highs and lows. They have the game to take anyone out, and then the next day go out randomly.

I just checked the draw again on Astana and it appears Rune must have withdrawn! He was scheduled to play Alcaraz in the 1st Rd.! LL Goffin has taken his place! IDK how that happens so often! A winner or finalist of a tourn. has such a tough match in the 1st Rd. of their next tourney! :astonished-face:

Goffin, out of the dustbin! If they were made of sterner stuff, we wouldn't be arguing so much about Fedalovic, right? TBH, Goffin v. Alcaraz might be more interesting.

Carlos better be careful! Goffin was in the top 10 not that long ago! He has no real power, but cagey! He can work a point just like CA! I haven't heard of him playing so he might be nervous and stressed becoming #1 so soon! This is Borg territory IMO not w/standing the times and level of competition! Is it hyperbole? He's done what several generations of stars havent been able to do the last 20 years; beat Nadovic, took a USO, & became #1 before 20 yo'! True enough, Fedal near the end, but the others have not come close! :astonished-face::fearful-face::shushing-face:

De Minaur already taken out by Soonwoo Kwon, in fairly easy straights. Now the Coric-Kokkinakis I have been waiting for. Went with the Aussie in my draw challenge. Odd choice? We shall see.

Ugh FAA is so frustrating. He trashes Alcaraz and Djokovic and then loses in the 1st round against Bautista.
Nah he didnt’ trash any of them, they were all close matches. Agut is a tough player, and FAA always looks better than he actually is.….mainly because he hits big shots. All it takes is missing a few big shots and Agut gets him.

So far Ruud and Alcaraz have been duds since their new rankings and expectations. Do better guys!

They're like the last wave of NG'rs that can't handle the pressure like The Big 3! Consistency just isn't something they possess! Unbelievably both lost early in their respective tournaments! Ruud went out to Munar in Japan and Alcaraz dropped his 1st Rd. match to Goffin in Astana! :astonished-face: :fearful-face:
