Musetti was No 60 in the rankings, before his first title win, he will be No 31 now and should be seeded for the USO this year, hopefully with this win, his first ATP title, will give him the confidence going forward.

Casper Ruud (shoulder) and Matteo Berrettini (fatigue) have both withdrawn from Kitzbuhel tournament.

Musetti, Musetti, Musetti!

Hopefully this is a major mental hurdle overcome ( tourney win & highest seed win ever?) and that flowing BH will leap into the top 25.

Just finished watching the highlights of Ruud v Berretitini.Matteo seemed to be in control of the match, winning the 1st set, having BPs early in the 2nd set, well done to Casper who dug deep in the 2nd set, which went to a t/breaker and won the final set with ease., 46 76 (4) 62
Casper has a tour level in Swizterland 16-0....must be something in the air :)

I wondered where he's been since doing so well last season? Extending Novak to 5 sets at the French Open was impressive! Funny, I wasn't even anxious figuring he'll do as most of the NG'rs are mentally weak! They can't seem to finish; same with Tsitsipas obviously as another great comeback gave Djokovic his 2nd CGS defeating Nadal on the way! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy::fearful-face::astonished-face::lol6:

Regardless of his defeat in the final at Hamburg today, Alcaraz will have a new career high of No 5 in the rankings ( Monday 25th July)
Alcaraz is the youngest to achieve this since Nadal in 2005

Congratulations to Lorenzo Musetti for winning his maiden ATP Tour title especially against Carlos Alcaraz. I thought he was done after squandering FIVE championship points, four of them were on his serve! He really needs to work on both his physical and mental game moving forward. Hopefully, this title will provide him confidence into improving his game. He is only 20 years old by the way too.

As for Alcaraz, he has shown his amazing fighting spirit at a young age of 19. He still has not lost a straight set match in 2022, pretty remarkable. Here's an interesting fact: Half of Alcaraz's losses this year (3) came against Italians. What's more interesting about it too is that he lost to three Italians in three different surfaces. He is undefeated against Serbians this year though (4-0).

Thanks, I just finished watching the match on replay, as I had to work night shift
Agree with your thoughts, Musetti has to work on his physical game, also mental game moving forward, I hope his first ATP win gives him the confidence moving forward. He has the game, also the time being 20, to improve in these area's, also he was ranked 60 and has moved up to 31 in the rankings, will hopefully be seeded for the USO.
I loved this quote from him typical Italian mind you:)
" I tried to forgive me all the match points, all the points where I couldn't do it".

I just want to talk about Alcaraz and his so-called "weaknesses." We all know his amazing FH, drop-shots, serve (it can be amazing and clutch) and mental tenacity at 19 years of age. But, he does have some weaknesses that opponents can exploit. By no means these weaknesses are major and that will prevent him from achieving great things in the future.

First "weakness": While his FH is one of the most special shots in the ATP Tour, his backhand, while is a good backhand (especially on the run), can "break down." What I mean is that when he is on a neutral position or when he is trying to be aggressive with that shot, the ball tends to go long or into the net. Part of the reason is because he is an aggressive player, therefore he wants to punish the ball when he gets an opportunity. But, part of it, I think it is technical. His backhand is not as consistent when getting pressured compared to his forehand. But like I said, his backhand is not like Ruud, Matteo, or FAA in which you can continuously exploit throughout the match. It will be interesting to see if that shot becomes steadier as he gains more experience.

Last "weakness": Return of serve. Just like his backhand, it is not a major weakness in which an opponent can continuously exploit. However, more often than not, Alcaraz tends to get on a spell in which he starts to guess on his returns. And if he is on that spell, he starts to get inpatient, thus it affects his service games. One thing about Alcaraz though is that he is very athletic and knowledgeable, so he can quickly adapt to any situation. The good thing is that it is an easy fix meaning he just needs to play more matches, that's all and it should improve his return game.

I also think at times his serve can also let him down at certain times in matches, not saying it is a major weakness, he is human I guess and feels the pressure in a match, though for a 19 year old his mental tenacity is outstanding like another Spaniard I know:)

Alcaraz is more of a clutch server than a rhythm server at least for right now. Whether or not he becomes both clutch and rhythm server remains to be seen.
