I cant understand why Sinner would want to play clay tournaments, after grass? and not defend his HC tournament makes no sense to me, in regards to playing Hamburg and Umag, probably trying to gain some points?
To be fair, Clay is easier on the body than HC. He probably wants to gain some point and at the same time he probably wants to get some matches and rhythm going into the NA HC swing.

I realize clay is easier on the body, I did mention in my post to you he probably wants to gain points before the HC season. In the WTA players are also playing on the clay before HC, gaining points before the HC season

Young American player Brandon Nakashima has hired Franco Davin as his new coach. ( Davins has coached Del Potro, Fabio Fognini, worked with Coria, Dimitrov and Gaston Gaudio who won RG 2004).

Stan Wawrinka, has withdrawn from Gstaad, not happy with his current form, only wants to go on court when he can feel that he can properly compete.

Agree and also Dominic Thiem
Thiem at least had time on his side, though not a huge amount. Look at Andy Murray, he was World #1 at the end of 2016 but he’s struggled for years to regain his full fitness.

His name to youngsters nowadays might be more synonymous with wild cards rather than success. “I got a Murray into the next tourney, yippee!”

I’m more inclined to see the upside for Dominic. Lately, it has been close. He just has to get that match play that will help him keep those nerves at bay during key match moments. I was watching a bit of his matches and his strokes are going out by narrow margins. His issue really stems from pushing his shots rather than being aggressive with his forehand and backhand which in turn allows his opponents to hit winners.

BTW I Murray today in his match against The Mullet aka Max Purcell he was hobbling at the end of his match, it took him 3 sets to win, maybe going back to one of the clay tournaments at present would be a wiser choice, easier on your body

Dominic has been losing in all the challenger tournaments he has entered this year,it is no where near the player he was over a year ago before his injury. He won yesterday, it was close.Lets see how he goes against Agut tomorrow.

That might take him a while… :popcorn

Well you have players out there that think they can take off significant time off the tour & come back as good as ever! It doesn't work like that for any1 but the Big 3! In the old days, if gone for any length of time you were done; hence Borg doomed when retired too early! It just wasn't possible!
