Stan Wawrinka, has withdrawn from Gstaad, not happy with his current form, only wants to go on court when he can feel that he can properly compete.
Still, that's surprising, as it is home territory. Doesn't bode that well for the come-back.

Agree and also Dominic Thiem
Add Borna Coric to that list, it is a real shame. It seems like these guys take time off for medical issues or maybe even personal things, and when they return it is almost as if the game itself has passed them by. Then you read something from Benoît Paire, so incredibly talented but announces he is taking a break as well. Now I understand he has had covid multiple times and has had issues of playing in front of little or no fans. What bothered me is I believe he announced that on Twitter, and I thought he meant he was leaving immediately. Oh what a surprise to see him show up at Wimbledon to collect that first round prize money. Can anyone say "Tank you very much". It's sad when players are not 100 percent physically and they are doing their best to compete, and then Paire comes in and swoops up that first round check but can't continue on tour because of other "issues". I am a fan of Paire's style of play, but his behavior really irritates me.

Well, he plays Bautista-Agut next. I’m hoping a win motivates him further, but we will see. He isn’t being nearly as aggressive as he needs to be to compete.
RBA was up the break and served for the set in the first, but Thiem eventually won it in the TB. RBA just got the break in the 2nd. Hard-fought match. Dominic looks good.

Yay, Team Thiem! He did it into the QF. He defeats Bautista-Agut 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4 I am so happy I know he needs these moments for his confidence.

He looked a lot better today w/ his aggression than he's looked all year. Still a little unsure of when to pull the trigger, but definitely getting better. I was really happy to see it.

In regards to Coric, every times he comes back his shoulder gives him trouble, and has to withdraw, since having shoulder surgery at a young age mind you, he has never been the same player

Aussie Jason Kubler defeats top seed FAA 46 63 76(4) in Newport. Many people are now saying that FAA should get rid of his main coach Fred Fontang.Fact is that FAA has not better progress partly because of his coach?. This is the 2nd time this season that FAA has had 3 consecutive losses, two surfaces where normally he should play better.

The boys from Canada have definitely disappointed this season after starting so well by winning the ATP Cup. They both probably need a swift kick to the … that says stop messing up some of these prime opportunities.

That's the problem of any players after experiencing the excellence of the Big 3! No other players will be able to keep that going! Most will be inconsisent after being "on a roll!" It can't be sustained & we shouldn't be surprised! It's a wonder if tennis will be watchable after they retire! :shushing-face:

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from Hamburg Open, due to an ankle injury ( that fall he had at Wimbledon, Jannik said he slightly twisted his ankle, it is more a precaution, at this time).
Sinner hopes to be back on the tour in Umag

QFs in Bastad,

Cerundolo vs Karatsev
Schwartzman (3) vs Carreno Busta (5)
Baez (8) vs Thiem (PR)
Rublev (2) vs Djere
That's a pretty interesting bunch. I remember Baez featuring a bit in the clay season earlier this year. Up-and-comer.

Don lol! hold your horses, I would not say he is back, this is his 2nd win in a row after well over a year :)
I know. It will take him time to get back where he was, but to reach QF after so many losses is pretty significant. I'd say by the time of next AO he should be confident enough to do well there.
