Fiero, that's a tough one to call. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Novak wins Wimbledon doesn't that give him an automatic entry into the YEC at Turin? What make things more difficult it that there is no China swing, I"m assuming he can't play the Cincinatti and Canada Masters in the fall, where Novak could have possibly picked up some points. Now regarding defending Paris Masters, I would hope not losing yet another 1000 points would be motivation enough.

With the bannning of points, I'm not sure if it matters if Novak wins Wimbledon! That's one of those questions few if any have asked! :anxious-face-with-sweat: :fearful-face::shushing-face:

Not to be dense, but that is a "yes," right? Or maybe? They reserve 7 slots for the top 7, and one for a GS winner not ranked that high in the YE rankings? But what if someone ALSO ranked outside of the top 7 but ranked higher than Novak wins the USO? Would that slot not go to him?

Fiero, I don't see why that is funny. I'm trying to understand the rule. I'm not trying to exclude Djokovic, at all, if that's what you're sniggering at. I'm asking a hypothetical, as I'm not clear on the rule. Can't even as a question around here.

I laughed because I said the same thing to myself; "does that mean if Novak wins Wimbledon he has an automatic entry into YEC?" :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy::fearful-face:

TBH, I think there has always been the notion of a chance, because his ban can get waived. This does add extra reason to waive it. But I take @MargaretMcAleer's point above, which is that he wasn't deported, in the end, for not being vaccinated, but for being a threat to health and good order in Australia, because of his position. There is also the fact that there was a false statement on his visa paperwork. And Margaret just posted that Qantas still requires vaccination, which means the conversation for Australians is far from over. There is also the court of public sentiment, which politicians will care about. Giving Novak a let-off from a 3-year ban, given all of the above, is not likely to be that popular in Australia, unless a lot of things change in the next 5 months. Maybe Margaret and @Chris Koziarz and anyone else in Oz can tell me if I'm wrong on that, or give us a clearer bead.
A lot depends on the new immigration minister, with changed political power after recent election. I already asserted that the new minister who replaced Alex, has the mindset similar to Alex's when it comes to protecting national health, especially vulnerable Aboriginals, and he never questioned his predecessor's decisions with border protection agency (including handling the Joker case), so he will be very reluctant to pardon Joker.

This is just breaking news to hand,

Nick Kyrgios has been charged with assulting his former girl friend in Canberra.Nick has been summonsed to face a Canberra court after allegedly assulting former girl friend late last year.Nick is due to appear in court next month.Given that the matter is before the court he dosent have a comment at this stage but in the fullness of time his barrister said we'll issue a media release.
Nick Kyrgios is due to play his quarter final match on Wednesday at Wimbledon.
So far the ATP and Wimbledon have not commented on the alleged assult.
There were a few reporters at Nicks practice match trying to get a comment from him to no avail

Yeah, the wording isn’t exactly clear, is it? My interpretation is if someone ranked higher than Novak were to the USO, then Djokovic would become an alternate, since he would become No. 9, and the winner of the USO would be No. 8.

I've read the same news Margaret, hard to miss this top headline in all sport's news here. Not a real surprise for me: given his attitude towards women's dignity with his sledge at Wawrinka. Maybe partial surprise because everyone close to him says how good and amicable he is to his social acquaintances, family, kids, etc. But no, it looks like he treats all women like he treated Wawrinka's girlfriend. Sadly, reporters have been talking how disrespectful he was (still is I think) towards Wawrinka only, missing the woman at whom the sledge was (unintentionally) the gravest.
So this latest development suggests that Kyrgios's amicability and rich social life is not life of a caring, empathetic person, but rather of a character type called "social narcissist", or "communal narcissist". If you are now familiar with this type, read about it anywhere, eg here
The typical behavioural symptoms of communal narcissist are:
  • become easily morally outraged
  • describe themselves as empathetic and generous
  • react strongly to things they see as unfair

Kyrgios is a poster child of such behaviour, isn't he :)
I have some experience with such types: they are very much loved by their peers at the distance or "half distance" even when they meet the narcissist frequently but do not live together. But as long as they start living together, they quickly learn narcissist's true motives and stop liking him, then difficulty in developing caring relationship, and animosity starts.
Disclamer: I'm not diagnosing Kyrgios here, it's impossible to diagnose such things without several psychological tests, but I'm just pointing out how perfectly such image fits Kyrgios bahaviour on the court, off the court (also inability to get a coach) and this latest development with his girlfriend

Chris,
Nick is innocent until proven guilty, what I find strange, this happened in South Australia in December last year? the former girl friend now decides to press charges of assult?

I see the Wimbledon thead is closed for further replies, but here is a general question that I don't think was addressed: Djokovic did speak out about the late start, day-to-day on Centre Court, meaning that a lot of matches would go into night sessions and requiring the roof to be closed. Wimbledon is an outdoor tournament. Are they too excited about their new roof and lights? Should they start the Centre Court matches earlier, in future? Curious to opinions.

Over the years Wimbledon has tried to exploit the tournament for even more money! There was a time of no matches on Sunday, even the Finals were a day earlier on Friday for the ladies and Saturday for the men early on in Pro tennis! Now there's this thing with the lights & the roof, they're abusing that suburb of Wimbledon; maybe paying them off for how they trash the neighborhood! Most would be smart to just rent their homes to the players and get away! We were bidding for the Olympics of 2016 in Chicago! I was so glad we failed and it went to Rio! I didn't want the world descending on us! We could have made a pretty penny with our lakeshore condo location, but I didn't or want my life turned upside down with those masses of people swarming over 3 or 4 states! :anxious-face-with-sweat: :astonished-face::shushing-face::face-vomiting::clap:

Darren Cahill has been confirmed now as Jannik Sinner's full time coach, ( not part time when he was first asked to join Sinner's coaching team).

Newport Rhode Island Hall of Fame 250 event, the only USA's grass tournament is shaping up nicely with FAA and Andy Murray participating with wild cards.
First timers Bonzi, Jason Kubler and Tim Van are also set to appear.
Spain's Felciano Lopez will be making his first appearance on grass in the twilight of his career.

The Zverev domestic abuse case report could may be out at the end of July ( The ATP has been investigating this case for well over a year hopefully there will be a final outcome).

Alcaraz and Sinner are both schedule to play Hamburg and Umag (clay-court tournaments plus back to back tournaments). Interestingly enough, Sinner, defending champion of Citi Open, is not playing Citi Open this year.

Daniil Medvedev will play Los Cabos tournament at the beginning of August. Therefore, he will more than likely play three consecutive weeks of tennis (Los Cabos, Canada, and Cincy) then will have a week off before he defends his US Open title.

There's still no official news on when will Zverev return to action. Canadian Open starts in four weeks, so we will probably know in two weeks or so on his official status.

I cant understand why Sinner would want to play clay tournaments, after grass? and not defend his HC tournament makes no sense to me, in regards to playing Hamburg and Umag, probably trying to gain some points?
