First time I have watched youngster Sebastion Baez who defeated Dominic Thiem in the q/finals at Bastad, 62 67(5) 64
This is his third SF he is 20-9 on the clay for 2022.Thiem was found wanting in the final set, lack of match practice showed.
Baez will play either Rublev or Djere in the s/final.

I only watched a lit'l at the end! Cressy's a throwback from a bygone era! He had a few nice volleys, but combos were easily thwarted by Taylor! :-)2

Since no HOF thread, Bublik defeated Andy Murray in str. sets, 7-5, 6-4! How in TF was Andy seeded 6th? Murray needs to give it up! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy::astonished-face:

Yup, he's very good and I'm annoyed at myself for picking Rublev over him today. I was thinking to go with Baez but didn't see both underdogs winning as Cerendolo beat Carreno Busta very easily just before it. Baez has one of the best clay records out there.

Aussie Jason Kubler defeats top seed FAA 46 63 76(4) in Newport. Many people are now saying that FAA should get rid of his main coach Fred Fontang.Fact is that FAA has not better progress partly because of his coach?. This is the 2nd time this season that FAA has had 3 consecutive losses, two surfaces where normally he should play better.
FAA was a bit unlucky tbh in that match. He was 6-5 up in the 3rd set and the match was stopped due to darkness. When it resumed the following day he dropped serve. May have won it if they hadn't stopped although tbh Kubler has had by far the better grass court season. Delighted for Kubler. To be playing this well after 6 (!) knee surgeries at 29 is unreal. Interested to see his level on hard courts.

Edit: I got that wrong. Kubler was serving when it was resumed so it was dead even really and just went to the TB and the better player won.

Really happy for Jason, delighted that so far he has had a good grass season, his favorite surface, he nearly retired, after all the injuries he has had, I would not blame him, hopefully he can go far in this tournament.

I'm not sure at all on the winner of Kubler v Bublik. Can't decide on the winner or the over/under number of games at all. A lot depends on Bublik's serve. He made the final last year so he's the favourite alright but not sure if it's by the margin the bookies make out.

Both underdogs won in Bastad, the bastads!

Bastad the Bastads lol!....Bublik loves grass, agree if he serve is on, hard to beat at times, I have to laugh he hates clay and is playing a clay tournament after this one, I gather he is trying to gain points, still I cannot see him lasting that long.

Front,

Bublik serve too good for Jason today, Jason had trouble on his return game.

Final,

M. Cressy vs A.Bulbik
Cressy hasn't a hope there I reckon. Bublik for the win. Read so many predictions of Kubler to win and he did win......5 games :D !

I like Cressy - as an idea. An old idea, that he’s keeping alive. Somebody better than him will come along and slaughter everyone by applying the same idea perfectly…

Cressy is very old school serve and volley player, which I guess suits the grass, back in the middle ages :)
Exactly, but it still surprise people in the future, when a Sampras-stature player will come along…

The instructive words here being, “these days.” But these days change. Players are organic creatures, they evolve. They’re opportunistic. We shouldn’t be surprised if the players 10 years from now resemble Pete more than Novak or Rafa…
