That's explains why he is so darn annoyingStop being 'soo Irish' okay lol!
Tommy Paul wins his first ATP title,in Stockholm, defeating Denis Shapovalov 64 26 64.
I think Denis won this tournament in 2019? He is not playing Davis Cup,feels he is a bit burnt out and needs to prepare for the off seasonI had to go out mid 3rd set! I thought his experience might get him through, but Paul was taking big swipes at the ball which matched Denis'!
I was watching bits of him this week, but I have no feel for his game. How would you assess him? He certainly had a great week, though he did seem to come out of nowhere, with his wins. I went out in the middle of the 3rd, thinking that Shapo was about to run it home, and then came back to find that Paul had won it. Who is Tommy Paul, and what should we expect from him in 2022? Thanks! Can't help but be happy for Tommy Paul. People, posters, commentators had seemed to write him off, with Fritz and Opelka, as well as Brooksby and Korda lurking. But it was great to see Tommy come back after losing that second set. What a great victory for him and I have to say I wonder if this will give him extra confidence going into the 2022 season. Great win Tommy!
Wow, and I thought Federer was old.Federer's coach Ljubičić rules out retirement
Federer's coach 'guarantees' he will return to professional tennis but rules out 2022 Australian Open return.
Marga, if you are around, how is this magazine?
From what I know, Tommy is from New Jersey, and actually had a clay court built in his back yard as a teen. He did manage to win the French Open Junior Boy's Title one year. He seems to have stalled, and I know that during the "lockdown" he shared an apartment with Opelka and they practiced on a private hard court owned by a local tennis fan. He has trained at the National Tennis Center and at one point coaches and trainers conducted tests and Paul was determined to be the overall best athlete of the bunch that included players like Tiafoe and Fritz. Now what those tests consisted of, I don't know. I have read, and remember this is speculation from fans and "hangers-on" as I call them, that he had not yet committed to the game. He now has a relatively new coach, lives in Miami now and maybe he just needed to mature alittle. How high he can go in the ranking, I think is up to Paul. I can see. him getting into the top 35, from there I am not sure. I find his game entertaining to watch, I guess only time will tell.I was watching bits of him this week, but I have no feel for his game. How would you assess him? Also the younger you are the more chance you have of cartilage regenerating. This is precisely what happened, according to Federer: ”This summer it was decided to suture the lesion to my meniscus, which involves some downtime. The doctors took the opportunity to also treat my cartilage. The combination of these two procedures requires patience and caution."
