Question : Are the current ranking (ATP points) without points from 2020 year Finals? I see Djoker has 10940 and Medvedev 7640. I saw Djoker won just 400 last year and Medvedev 1200 points.

Yes, I think, points were deducted from the last final tournament where Nole won 400 and Meda 1500 points.

Looking at the Live Rankings online, initially Med lost 2200 pts; probably points over the last 2 seasons! I'm so glad we're past this thing with the points! Holding Fed in the top 10 while not even playing was a joke! Both Fedal have inflated recs w/ BS like this going on to keep them relevant!

On a controversial point, Jim Courier said today on Tennis Channel that the players think of the Olympic Gold on par with a Major. I know that has been a bit of a hot button around here. Maybe he was just trying to stir up trouble, but that's his take on what the players think.
The players are wrong, but I’d love to know which players think that. It isn’t impossible for events to grow in stature, I suppose, and the status of an event probably doesn’t only come from tradition, but also the desire of players to win it. The Australian Open was always seen as a non event for the top players when I was young - and that’s a slam. It’s regained its position since then.

i can only think of two reasons why a player might think the Olympics is as important as a slam, one being that the player values representing their country ahead of personal achievement, and the other is that maybe the player already has double digit slams but no Olympic gold?

Ha, interesting point about the AO growing in stature. I'm not saying it's MY point only saying that Courier was shopping it around. Apparently Zverev, who just won the Gold Medal is very high on it. Understandably enough. Mostly, I'm just kicking up controversy in the near-off season. :)

As to your two reasons, though, I'd add another, which I think gets passed over too much here: every kid grows up with the Olympics. And it does have its own aura. I know it doesn't mean as much in our sport, same as with basketball, for example, where there are bigger prizes in the year-in/year-out, and our athletes don't wait 4 years for one shot at the gold ring. However, like Davis Cup, which does (or did) have a long tradition in our sport, I think there is a moment when our players, who spend 90% of their time in an individual sport, enjoy playing on a team. And maybe for country. That would be my 3rd reason.

Thank goodness the powers that be at the Australian Open in 2022 have scheduled both men's s.finals to be played on Friday,
one in the day session, the other in the night session.Previously they scheduled one on Thursday night, the other one on Friday night.
Both ladies s/finals will now be played on the Thursday in the night session.

Why are the finals on those days?

It's amazing the players who have recently won the WTC while players such as Nadal, Monfils or the Samurai (Glass) haven't. Maybe it's because their bodies are just so beaten up that they are just looking for the pre holiday season break in scheduling.

I think that for the WTF to be accurately reflective of the season that the top 8 players have just concluded, it should have had a few turns on clay. They've had it on outdoor hards, indoor hards, but clay? No. And yes, if anyone says, then what about grass? Well, there are very few tournaments on grass, but a slam is played on grass, so why not? There should be a definitive alternating system of surfaces for this event that captures the fullness of what the season is...

I wouldn't have a problem with grass especially if they could find a place to play the WTF that is a lot warmer than London in November. I agree, there should have been an incorporation of change of surface type years ago.

Indoor grass would be a hoot. If it was still played in London, obviously they could have the fire sprinklers go off every 30 minutes to include rain delays, make it more authentic... :lulz1:

NEVER seen Federer this quiet for this length of time.
I'll be very surprised if we see Federer on court again. Firstly, his injury isn't healing and he's obviously not able to compete yet, but secondly, will he want to come back and play if he can't challenge at the very top? He reached the semis of Australia in January 2020, he beat Novak in London a few weeks before to hand Rafa the YE#1 in 2019. I just don't think he wants to come back and be struggling like Murray - and I admire Andy for what he's doing, it's fairly compelling and reminds us of what we knew about his competitive nature, but I just don't imagine Roger being okay with that...

I still don't know why they've switch the YEC to being a contracted, residing sight for several years rather than changing surfaces and locations yearly? Not that I need or want to help Nadal, but he probably would have had at least one if played on clay in So. America or Europe! He's barely had a sniff of a title making final twice IIRC! One year, I believe it was '09 when he lost all 3 of his RR matches! The 1st YEC Masters Tournament I saw was on grass being played "down under" with Nastase &Vilas back in the 70's! Vilas won in 5 sets pummeling the ball from the baseline!
