These courts look slow and bouncy thanks to the hot weather. Luckdull strikes again.

That's what I'm afraid of. His chances on grass are limited to facing garbage competition and his hopes of a high bouncing surface thanks to Wimbledon.

This problem is not exclusive to Roger though. It happens this way alot when dealing w/ a young gun vs. a top player. Some of them really raise their level for the elite and then struggle w/ players of their norm caliber.

Pffft. You don't see guys getting all giggly and hyped to play Dimitrov or Cilic. These young guys though? Listen to them talk about Roger and what they would do just for the chance to be on the same court as him. The fawning Roger gets is well-deserved but some of these players you'd swear there was a chorus of angels singing in their heads when they speak of Roger's game. To this day DelPo get super-motiviated and talks about what an honor it is for him to play Roger. Sure...he's a client of Team8, but sstill...he don't talk that way about Djokovic and Nadal.

I agree. Sasha is in this category too. The only difference between them is that Sasha is a lot more consistent than Borna.

I had no idea about the Uniqlo thing. Was pretty shocked to be honest. I just read the details. Nike had the chance to match apparently. Interesting that they passed. $300 mil over 10 years even if Roger does not play. Solid deal for Roger. He just has to get the RF brand and he is set.

How do you go from beating Roger in the Halle final to "this"? These youngsters majorly lack consistency and ambition.

You got to see his pedigree at Wimbledon. He lost in the first round last two years and his max was reaching second round once. Further, you can look at his GS record overall. He has never gone beyond third round anywhere. Finally, you can take a look at his grass chops. Before Halle, I think he has won only about 2 grass matches in his whole life. That is why, I called the upset.

Winning against Roger when he is tired in a three set match is totally different and is not a predictor of anything.

Glad to see Roger coming big straight out of the gates and winning the match quite easily in under 1.5 hours. As long as he does not get into five setters and at most one or two four setters before SF, I would give him a good chance to beat Cilic in SF.

Also, of note Roger did not throw in an odd lousy game to get broken. In fact, he did not even face a break point. Hope, he keeps it that way.

Tons of service breaks today. How are the courts looking? I'm almost afraid to ask.

During practice, Rafa complained that grass is longer this year (he was worried that it won't be worn down fast). However, groundsmen said that it is 8 mm long and same as usual.

I think after they decided to move the Wimbledon back by one more week, it falls into hotter part of the summer than before (Londonites can confirm whether what I am saying is true). So, this would certainly be more helpful to Rafa. In fact, I heard a commie saying during Roger's match that conditions are quite favorable for Rafa this year.

Karlovic, Querrey/Kandy should be good practice for Cilic SF.

Oh, common. He has been set a long time ago even without any new deals.
How many hundreds of mills one needs in a lifetime?

Stan literally is stealing this match from Dimi. Up 2 sets to 1

I'm not a Londoner but I can tell you that although British weather is unpredictable at the best of times it is normally hotter in the whole of the U.K. in July than June though the South normally gets better weather than us Northerners. It's not always the case though but this year we've had a heat-wave for the past month. (I'm sick of it. I suffer from heat-stroke so can't stand this heat.)

I get all that but we are talking a talented guy who is just 21 and had a big-time week. I think that should be more relevant than struggles the last two years. And it was a beatdown against someone who hasn't done a whole lot lately. Good call on the upset though, I was pretty shocked by it.

I saw the highlights of Fed's match today and everything looked good aside from his backhand which looked atrocious. Hopefully it is just about getting used to the courts.

you can always get more matey :D
I'm really surprised at Nike on this one. It could end up being as dumb as their fiasco with Steph Curry. Having a portfolio of stars is more than just about promoting your brand. You also stop your competition from expanding. Sometimes I think that Nike forgets about the defensive aspect of sports retailing. It might bite them on the butt one day. I can think of few athletes with the sort of global penetration that Federer has. Even if he's in his latter years, people are going to be talking about him for generations to come, he's still relevant

@Federberg I guess they didn't want to pay for 10 years when they're not expecting him to be active that long. I agree. Kind of a dumb move. They still pay Jordan and he's been retired for years.

Yup exactly. Jordan, Palmer. Some sports stars transcend and Roger is in that category

I've been neutral on Dimi stock for a long time. I almost considered buying it after the ATP finals last year. If he gets rolled by a Stan just coming back from injury and not yet confident I might have to consider shorting his ass.
