Is Kachanov good enough to do the job?

I think it depends on how Nadal's playing. If he's doing his usual passive defender hitting everything 10 feet behind the baseline? Then yeah, I think the kid can take him out. He's got a big game even if he isn't the greatest mover. Plus, he probably learned a lot from his Halle Match against Roger - and Nadal is nowhere near as aggressive - especially coming forward as Roger is. If he can play attacking tennis and keep the points short - I give him a decent shot of beating Nadal. Conversely...he's young and inexperienced. Nerves could do him in.

Stan never ever has played well on grass and I doubt he will do

That's because he's got crappy footwork, crappier volleys and moves like a tank in a muddy field. Which ain't that big a deal on clay and slow hardcourts....

Roger's first match is actually a very tricky one against Dolgopolov. Quite a bit harder than John freakin' Milkman.

Word! You never know what you're going to get with Dolgopolov. Surprisingly they've only played 3 times. Roger's won them all, but Dolgopolov is a loose cannon. He's one of those guys everybody thought had crazy talent - and then...nothing...

Wawrinka losing early is no surprise. I predict Thiem will follow suit.

I can't finish to understand why some of you are concerned about the next Rafa's opponents if according to you he is not playing good on grass and Roger is a clearly Wimbledon winner. After to watch the Russian in Halle I think he is a dangerous player but Rafa has Young first who plays pretty well, quick shots and also left handed so I rather to go step by step, match by match. With a good serve and forehand he will go far
I hope he will keep doing these ridiculous great shots

Carol, it isn't brain surgery. Roger fans want Rafa to go out early, because once he gets to the second week all of a sudden he goes from merely a pretty good but quite vulnerable grass player to his usual great self. And while I favor Roger in a Fedal final as he's a much greater grass player, there's a match history and pressure on Roger that he could struggle with.

Not to mention that anything can happen in a final. The more you put yourself in a final, the more chances you might actually win one or two or 18.

After to see the Rafa's results from 2011 I don't see any reason that Roger has some pressure and most being a much greater grass player. But talking about the previous years and like I said previously since 2008 the Trophy of Wimbledon has been split between the top four players which means that none one of them dominates on grass but clearly it depends how well or bad is playing each one

Dolgo has some strange illness, sadly, sort of like Venus's. Strange, funny, random game, but his results are erratic because of his disease. But if he's having an on-day, he could give Roger a bit of trouble, as he's so wildly unpredictable in his shot choices. (The scouting report says that even Dolgopolov seems not to know what shots he'll hit. LOL.)

No, I don't think so. At best, he may come close to it and then realize what he is about to do and start making tons of UFE and give it up.
The perils of being a greenhorn.

No one mentioned Raonic v. Struff. Raonic is having a less than stellar year, and Struff has had a pretty good Spring.

Even though it is only the first match, I was very impressed with Nadal's play. From the start, Nadal was determined to be aggressive from the baseline and serve.

The one thing I truly loved was the way he was hitting his backhand in this match. He was hitting deep and hard throughout the match. He was even trying to hit down the line even if he missed it.

I always thought that what makes Nadal truly impossible to beat is when he is hitting his backhand hard and deep. His forehand will always be his signature shot but when he hits his backhand with purpose then his opponents will have a hard time to dictate the pace. In addition, his forehand can be short so opponents can attack it. However, his backhand is most often flat and deep so his opponents can not attack that much.

I am just hoping he continues this style of play not only this fornight but throughout 2017 and the rest of his career.
