I agree Fed is still the clear favorite. Djokovic is the only one that will trouble him. Perhaps Nadal will take one or two sets in the final too.

Call me crazy but I'm still more worried about the next few rounds. If we get to the semi and he can taste his date with destiny (#8, #19) I think he will seize it. But he came out today and played a bad few games. Against a better opponent that loses him the first set maybe and then who knows what happens.

Absolutely not, and Fed knows he can't slice it vs. Rafa. Killing the backhand like he has this year is a good idea. If he does that effectively it will be a short final as it should be.

I beg to differ. Rafa actually has problems bending down and dealing with it, if you can keep the slice low.

You can slice to the Rafa backhand but even that's trouble if he has enough time to run around it. If he hits a slice with his forehand the point is over unless it's absolutely a wicked bite. He eats slice up off his forehand better than anyone ever by a wide margin.

As pathetic as the Wimbledon grass is I'm not worried about Roger suddenly playing passive on that wing. Also slicing it vs Djoker isn't a bad play on occasion even on this garbage grass.

Also it is the ROS that is the biggest difference this year IMO. The passive and crappy returning is why he isn't at the 21-22 slam mark that he should be at.
I am surprised by the improvement in his return of serve. I thought hand eye coordination deteriorates with age.

People are underestimating Lajovic´s first set. The guy played really well. In fact, apart from the usual let down in the beginning of the second, he played quite decently until 0-2.

The 7-0 tie break was much more down to Federer raising the level immensely, completely solid and very aggressive, he would not lose that breaker to anyone (people use that phrase a lot but I save for when I really think so).

It is all down to the level of risk he now wants to assume. Before he was happy just to put the ball back in play, now he runs much more risk, as you can see by a lot of returns to the net. When it clicks, it looks like he is in god mode. What matters is that on average it pays off. Also, it is putting way more pressure on the server, which pays dividends by itself.

I can't remember where I read this, or in what context, but I think hand-eye coordination doesn't start deteriorating until some time after 40. What goes first, starting around 30, is the legs and feet and movement in general, as well as fitness and recovery time. And then of course there's the psychological dimension.

This is why it sometimes seems that older players can play matches that are as great as they ever were, just not for as long. So maybe Roger now at 35 can play a match or two in which he's as good--or even better--than he was in 2006, but he can't play to his peak for months and years on end like he did back then.

You might want to watch some Fedal matches then. Rafa eats slices for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
It's about time someone realized what I am trying to say, if Roger slice that bh to Rafa, and Djoker, they will kill it, well I know,Rafa, will

You ain't crazy but you may be absolutely insane . Novak defeated Roger because Roger tried to beat him from the baseline. I like Rafa, chances vs Roger because of his dtl bh to Roger's fh.

Djokovic struggles with slices from time to time, but yeah agreed on Rafa, even on grass.

Yes we get it, Roger sucks and everyone should beat him. Djoker beat him because he was at an awesome level until this year and Roger also wasn't playing like he is now. His backhand and ROS were much weaker.

I will take the chance to bitch about this grass again. If this surface wasn't a joke Fed would make Djokovic and Rafa look like scrubs on grass. As it is he should still take them

Nah it will be time to pay back one of the most pathetic losses of Fed's career. But first they both have to make it.

He will most likely destroy everyone, continue to make up for the lack of success in his 30's.
