I'll miss the big 4 (well, the big 3...not much of a Murray fan), but not the forum squabbles. Of course they'll be replaced by something else. That said, I must admit a sense of schadenfreude at the thought of Rafa retiring and leaving Carol with big emptiness...what will she do?

As for Rafa and Khachanov, I think Rafa will win it in 4 sets. Muller will be a bigger challenge, but I think it will be Cilic in the QF that he loses to.

Makes you wonder what the next big rivalry will be... Zverev v A.N.Other?

@Moxie How can you make plans w/ Nicky. He's completely unreliable and likely not to show up.

I still have faith in his talent. Remember that I was a Safin fan for years. I'm in for the long-game on crazy.

Clearly the match of the day tomorrow is Nadal v. Khachanov. Others might be good, but it's hard to pick against the favorite in the rest. I've said that Rafa has to be bold and stand by his game. ¡Vamos, Rafa!

Roger will retire first so I'm sure you and others will be with a big emptiness too, what will you do? :p

I think they'll retire around the same time, or at least within a year or so of each other. I'll feel a big emptiness, but I am a tennis fan first and foremost, and I also follow the young guns/next gen, so I've got plenty of potential favorites. Haven't picked "my guy" yet, though. Maybe I'm a monogamist type, and won't fully bond with a new favorite until Roger retires.

Carol, who was your favorite player before Rafa came along? Or are you not that old?

Yeah, I wonder. It should be Kyrgios, but he is a mental case. have put forth the idea that it will be a larger field of elites, with no clear true greats, but a handful of guys fighting for #1 and Slam titles - sort of like the late 90s. do think Zverev will separate himself a bit, at least until Aliassime comes of age.

Zverev is clearly separating himself, and not just by a bit. He's about a million points above #nextgen in that race. And he's got a good head and good game. Unless he gets injured, he seems a shoe-in for top contender when the Big 4 fall off. For all this current talk of brats and guys that don't value the game or have ambition: he's not that guy. He seems hugely ambitious. And when he fills out that 6'6" frame, he's going to be formidable. I'm not saying there's nobody BUT him, but I think he's the best shoe-in there is. I have a big soft spot for Tiafoe. And all of the world is looking at Nick to see if he'll come good. I really do hope so. And I'll keep my eye on your man Aliassime.

Good question, when I was very young (almost a little girl) I liked Borg, then McEnroe but not too much because he was doing too much noise lol, I liked Connors and Agassi but I never liked Sampras, too boring and then I lost the interest for this sport so I missed the beginning of the Federer career even that I remember to hear many good things about him but later I also started to hear about Nadal, everybody was talking about a very young guy and how good he was so when I saw him for the first time I was so impressed (don't get mad please) that he made me to get the interest again until now.
I know that he, Federer, Muzz and Novak are not going to be there forever and I hope that one of the guns/next gen can impressed to me like Nadal did but to be honest not one has getting my total attention, they are good without any doubt but....something is missing but I have to say that maybe Thiem is the one that I like more though he still has to improve a lot more

Did you like Sampras? well I have to say that I didn't see him too often
If I had one player to compete for my family livelihood besides Rafa,or Roger, it would be,Pete. Pete was a man's man

Yeah, no need to be. I mean, if he loses it was his knees so your bases are well covered in advance.
Apparently Carol is an adult and not a mentally challenged 8 year old. Makes me think it's just a troll account of some random guy out there to annoy some of us. I've added the Carol account to my ignore list, seems fishy.

Not so sure he will. Wouldn't surprise me if they both retire in 2020 as it's an Olympic year.

I'm hoping the muller match happens as I really like the guy. I also give cilic a better chance though but I'm not really a cilic fan.

One more thing on the forum battles, I do like them quite a lot actually. In the end those are the matches that really matter and it's a nice lead up to them. I like discussing the likes of tiafoe and ofner from time to time, but I personally find the search for the next big thing in tennis a bit tiring. We will instantly recognise the pretender when he arrives, I'm actually still not entirely convinced by zverev to be honest, although he will likely win some slams in the absence of competition.

If nobody shows up, even I can win. :lol6: Actually, it happens often in league matches. I have "won" several matches as the opponent did not show up. :D

Yeah, I agree that Zverev has separated himself from the pack by quite a distance. Barring injury, there's no reason to believe he won't be a multi-Slam winner and #1 player. The questions that remain are:

1) How good will he be? Will he be an elite but not truly great player like Roddick or Hewitt, a "near great" like Kuerten, Courier, or Nastase, a "lesser great" like Edberg and Becker, or will he be an "inner circle great" like Novak and Rafa? My money would be on the Edberg/Becker level, and that there will several players in the Kuerten/Nastase/Courier vein, which leads to the next question...2) Who will join him in elite? In other words, if we imagine the top 10 in five years, and assume the Big Four have faded and/or retired, who else will be in it other than Zverev? Maybe another thread..

As for Aliassime, he turns 17 soon so is probably still 2-3 years away from being a threat at big tournaments. But I have a feeling he's going to be very good.

So what about the weather impacting the state of the courts? Darth was already alluding to this yesterday and Mattek Sands has had her career ended by it in all likelihood.

Seems to work in favour of certain players I would think?
