I didn't mean they overlap precisely, but the prep for one interferes with the other such that AZ won't play both. Let's see whether he does.

We have the Paris Masters and the next gen WTF and then the regular WTF. So, Sasha might have to play three weeks in a row.

ATP created this next gen WTF to encourage and boost young players (which is of course a good thing). But, I bet they never
would have imagined someone who qualifies for this year's next gen WTF would also be qualifying for the general WTF.

Sasha would probably skip Next Gen WTF and play Bercy and London. The next gen WTF does not give any points and even
the money would be less. Also, it has funny experimental format.

Thiem qualified for Masters

Cilic has also qualified. So, now five seats are taken (Rafa, Roger, Sasha, Cilice and Thiem) with three more left in play.
But, Grigor is almost a shoe in. So, the race is on only for the remaining two spots and it is a tight race. The top four
contenders for them are Goffin, PCB, Anderson and Querry.

I feel his pain; I was a terror on court to the last! It wasn't that I was that competitive, but I played so much I always thought to myself that any shot is possible from any position in the court! Against lesser players that was the case, but better, more seasoned players won't let you get away with that for long! Even winning the 1st set means little to nothing; esp. these days of the slow start! Players like Del Po makes his life so much more difficult allowing anyone and everyone to take him to the limit! He's too good; actually able to "straight set" Nole in his prime so he has the game! Something's keeping him in the 2nd tier besides his chronic injuries! :banghead:  :rain:

They're a deserving, but in the end, they're still just fillers unless Anderson or Querry get on a serving roll and makes life difficult for Rafa who typically folds like a cheap suit this time of the season!  :ptennis:

Utter disgrace. The ATP are utter scum. Serena didn't get any treatment like this for threatening to shove a tennis ball down the umpire's f*****g throat in her own words.

No, they did the same thing to Serena (probation for two years). So, it is fair. See below.

"Serena Williams was fined a record $82,500 for her tirade at a U.S. Open line judge and could be suspended from that tournament if she has another "major offense" at any Grand Slam in the next two years.

Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock's ruling was released Monday, and he said Williams faces a "probationary period" at tennis' four major championships in 2010 and 2011. If she has another "major offense" at a Grand Slam tournament in that time, the fine would increase to $175,000 and she would be barred from the following U.S. Open.

"But if she does not have another offense in the next two years, the suspension is lifted," Babcock said in a telephone interview from London.

He said Williams is handing over $82,500 right now to the Grand Slam committee, already far more than the previous highest fine for a Grand Slam offense. In 1995, Jeff Tarango stormed off the court at Wimbledon and accused the chair umpire of showing favoritism to certain players in exchange for their friendship. Tarango was fined a total of $43,756, which was reduced to $28,256 on appeal, and barred from Wimbledon the next year."

I'm not sure anything could possibly outdo Serena's tirade and subsequent threats to a line judge! When she didn't show up the following year, I thought it might have been part of her punishment instead of what was reported; some kind of foot surgery! I always take that kind of news with a grain of salt going back to Michael Jordan retiring to play baseball! That was a suspension for gambling ties among other things! With the death of his father, they didn't want to compound it by openly suspending him from the game! They gave him "an out" with that BS about playing baseball; BADLY! Luckily the owner of the Bulls owned the White Sox so "His Air-ness" could follow his so called dream of playing the game! :hoops: :spank2: :approved

The maximum punishment that ITF can give is $250,000 fine and a ban from all future GSs.

Not talking about the fine but the fact that she was never banned from 2 slams so it's still bs imo and completely double standards. Fognini should also just be fined and they should leave it at that. What they've done is total injustice given what she said and did was way worse.

They have not banned Fog yet. It is a conditional ban. They will watch his behavior for the next two years in GSs. If he behaves well, then he will not be banned. On the other hand, if he commits a "major offense", then he will be banned from 2 GS events. They did the same thing for Serena. Even the fine of $96,000 is not yet levied. If he behaves well, it won't be levied at all. He has already paid $24,000 which was decided at USO itself. He won't get that back though.

Fair enough. Thought he was actually banned from 2 slams already.

Rafa has officially withdrawn from Basel . However, the reason quoted is more of protection from over stressing of right knee. Hence, I don't think he will miss Bercy or WTF.

Anyway, this opens up a possibility for YE#1 for Fed. In order to get to YE#1 in a sure fire way, Fed needs to win Basel, Bercy and WTF (without losing a match). Even then YE #1 is not guaranteed for Fed. The current lead of Rafa is 1960. If Fed wins all these three events he will accumulate 3000 more. So, Rafa would need to make up 1050 or more in Bercy and WTF put together. If Rafa becomes runner up in Bercy, then he would only need 450 in WTF. If Rafa wins two RR matches in WTF, he will get 400. However, if Rafa is inefficient in his wins and some other player in his group wins efficiently, Rafa may end up as the runner-up of his group. If Fed is the winner of his group, then Fedal will happen in semifinal stage at WTF. If Fed defeats Rafa in SF, Fed can become YE#1 (Note: recall that in WTF you don't get brownie points for reaching SF, You get 400 extra points for winning SF and another 500 extra points for winning F).

Federer seemed to have given up the ghost on #1 but if he wins Basel, coupled with Nadal's withdrawal, I think it will be in his crosshairs again.
