I haven't seen the match so I can't give any opinion about it but Novak said after the match: " I made a lot of unforced error. Just handed him to win".....
That quote probably refers to the second set. In the first both played quite well especially on serve until Roger played a great return game to break for the set, but in the second set Novak was going through the motions and made a lot of uncharacteristic wild errors on routine groundstrokes.

But I don't think it's a loss that will hurt Novak too much, as his level in the first set would probably have been enough to take that set against everyone else. Also the loss ended some streaks and relieves the pressure that comes with them, while he still has advancing to the semi finals completely in his own hands.

What if Federer took the Nishikori match off? Let's say Andy beats Rafa. Then Fed will probably have to play Rafa in the semifinals. I'm sure he would rather play Andy. So what if he lets Nishikori win in two east sets, takes the night off, while Djokovic has to play his top game to beat Berdych in straights and wins No. 1 spot of SS group. So he gets No. 2 Rafa and Federer gets Andy. They both win easy and face each other again in the final.

Nah...Federer would never give up a match for something else. Oh wait...
Novak won't win the group regardless of the results of the last two group matches.

The possible outcomes are:

Djokovic wins against Berdych: 1. Federer 2. Djokovic
Nishikori and Berdych win: 1. Nishikori 2. Federer
Federer wins and Berdych wins in 2 sets: 1. Federer 2. Berdych
Federer wins and Berdych wins in 3 sets: 1. Federer 2. Djokovic

Oh well, there goes that theory. Still will be interesting to see how Federer plays against Nishikori.

Pa did Djoker badly. Good thing: Djoker "might" raise game, bad for Pa : I don't believe he can have this level for 3 more matches.

I would say it's difficult to keep the best level all around the year and less when the others players are playing better. Watching the replay I think that Federer played pretty well, that helped to make many forced errors to his opponent

I should be gloating about this win right now, but I don't want to go too far. It was an even bigger whipping than Cincinnati this year, which was quite the whipping. Fed only has to keep up this level of intensity for 3 more matches, seems very doable to me.
And I have a new stat for you guys, bearded Federer is unbeaten! :laydownlaughing

Gloat away! If you can't gloat after a win like that, when can you? ;)

So this is a crazy thought: If Berdych somehow manages to win tomorrow in the first match, Federer could tank against Nishikori and push Novak out of the WTF.

Hmm...

Of course there is no chance that Tomas will upset Novak, but still...tempting :devil

He should withdraw just after the first point, quoting back injury and a sore throat.

Federer - Nishikori will be the first match tomorrow. So Roger can only influence if Novak will have to win the match or just need one set to advance.

Just handed him to win, yeah that annoyed Roger somewhat afterwards. It seems Djoker knows how to keep Roger 's interest with things bulletin board latent comments

Despite Roger playing really well today and against Berdych, we can't really say how he will play against Rafa or Nole again. He's hot one day and becomes the 'ShankMaster' the next. Whole fall season, he's been nothing but inconsistent.

Well this is Roger's day and he had everyone behind him; including idiots booing Nole for challenging a call and screaming out in the middle of his 2nd serve near the end! No wonder Nole feels underappreciated! This is Roger and Rafa's era and no one is permitted to interlope in their spotlight! So rude of so called knowledgeable fans! :cover :puzzled :nono

Tat's true.. Roger has been inconsistent for the past 2 yrs. He plays unbeatable tennis throughout a tournament to loose the final atlast.

And the match was similar to the US open final where Roger served better than Nole. When it looked like Roger would break Nole's serve anytime, Roger wasted all those break points and he lost his serve which looked :eyepop

Thank god nothing like tat happened in this match.

This match confirms my belief that Murray is most interesting (i.e., least pong-ish) when playing Nadal.

I cant watch the match live as none of my local TVs interested in showing live tennis matches. But from what i see from BBC live text, Murray seems more aggressive than usual. I think he also played quite aggressive in the match against Ferrer.

Maybe he doesnt want long matches as he has one eye on Davis cup as well.

I still get the sense they don't like each other at all. It might not be as bad as it was in 2008 but they still seem to get under each other's skin.

It would be ironic if after all the Fed-Nadal expectations and permutations (1 playing 2 and 2 playing 1), it turns out to be Djokovic-Nadal and Fed Murray

^ It's looking likely though I think Stan has a very good chance of beating Murray and getting the last spot if he takes care of Ferrer today. For Roger I'd much rather he face Murray on this surface than Stan. Roger would probably beat Stan anyways but I think he'd plow through Murray easily like he usually does on this court.

I am not watching but looks like Rafa is playing himself into a decent form. He;ll probably win that group. Roger would do well to finish his group at the top and watch Rafa-Nole destroy each other, not unlike what happened to him last year with Stan.
