Federer leads the Stan Smith group, followed by Djokovic, Nishikori, and then Berdych.

Federer is officially qualified for the semifinals.

It shud be 2-2 for sets for novak , Kiri

You're right. My mind just couldn't compute Nole losing in 2 sets I suppose. lol I'll fix it. Thanks!

Looking at that Federer-Djokovic scoreline tonight, I thought 'Djokovic can't have lost a set 6-2 in a long time'! Sure enough, this is the first time Djokovic has lost a set 6-2 all year!

In fact, to find the last time he lost a set 6-2 you have to go all the way back to August 2014 at the Toronto Masters against Tsonga!

This stat is thus a compliment to Novak on how difficult and rare it is to beat him comfortably in a set, and a compliment to Federer for being the first in over 15 months to achieve it!

lol, and NishiK should be 3-2 as well, just trying to help :)

Nishikori lost 1-6, 1-6 to Djokovic and beat Berdych 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. That would be 2-3. Or I've lost my mind trying to multitask during this fine rainy Wednesday morning.

Despite Roger playing really well today and against Berdych, we can't really say how he will play against Rafa or Nole again. He's hot one day and becomes the 'ShankMaster' the next. Whole fall season, he's been nothing but inconsistent.

Well this is Roger's day and he had everyone behind him; including idiots booing Nole for challenging a call and screaming out in the middle of his 2nd serve near the end! No wonder Nole feels underappreciated! This is Roger and Rafa's era and no one is permitted to interlope in their spotlight! So rude of so called knowledgeable fans! :cover :puzzled :nono

Federer is in so the last spot is between Djokovic, Nishikori and Berdych.

Djokovic is 1-1, 2-2 in sets and 19-15 in games.

Nishikori is 1-1, 2-3 in sets and 19-26 in games.

Berdych is 0-2, 1-4 in sets and 20-28 in games.

Djokovic just needs to win, even in three sets and he is in.

Nishikori needs to beat Federer in straights and hope Djokoivc loses or at least drops a set. But Djokovic has the advantage in that as well unless Berdych blows him out. Losing 1 and 1 to Nole and then dropping a set to Berdych probably sealed his fate.

Berdych needs a whole lot of miracles to get in. Something like beating Djokovic 0 and 0 and then Nishikori winning in straights. Too many things to list that Berdych would need to get in.

Does that sound about right?

I haven't seen the match so I can't give any opinion about it but Novak said after the match: " I made a lot of unforced error. Just handed him to win".....

Having watched the match, I concur with what Novak said. Not to take away from Federer who played very well. But I haven't seen Novak play that poorly on this type of court in a LOOONG time.

Roger snapped Novak's 23 match winning streak today. He also stopped Djokovic at 41 straight in 2011 and stopped Rafa's clay streak at 81 back in 2007, feeding him a bagel in the process. That's impressive stuff.

Congratulations to Roger on a massive victory stopping multiple streaks of Novak. Unfortunately, I did not get to see even a bit of it.

Roger's fall season debacle was not caused by inconsistency; it was caused by lack of motivation.
But, in a big event such as WTF, he is and will be fully motivated. Of course, this does not mean he will win it. It means, he will not go down without a fight.

“He wasn't as good as in the first set,” said Federer after his 7-5, 6-2 win. “But I feel, honestly, with the way he's played this season, you still have to put him away. It's not an easy thing to do. It's not like he played terrible. I know he can play better. Why did he play that way? I'd like to give myself credit for that, quite honestly.”

It's always good beating Novak or any top player moving forward. But still to me, Novak is still the favorite of the tournament. Heavy favorite [to win against Tomas] Berdych [in his next] match, in my opinion. Then he should make his way to the semis somehow…He's far from gone.”

Seems a pretty fair assessment.

Pa did Djoker badly. Good thing: Djoker "might" raise game, bad for Pa : I don't believe he can have this level for 3 more matches.

What if Federer took the Nishikori match off? Let's say Andy beats Rafa. Then Fed will probably have to play Rafa in the semifinals. I'm sure he would rather play Andy. So what if he lets Nishikori win in two east sets, takes the night off, while Djokovic has to play his top game to beat Berdych in straights and wins No. 1 spot of SS group. So he gets No. 2 Rafa and Federer gets Andy. They both win easy and face each other again in the final.

Nah...Federer would never give up a match for something else. Oh wait...

Sets 1 and 2 were completely different. In set 2, ok, Djokovic UFE's decided it, but just watch the deciding game on set 1 and you see that Federer won it by playing great tennis, period.

Overall, Djokovic's bh was a bit off, and at one point in the match Federer just went after it. People can spin it every way they want, but there's a reason why 50% of Djokovic's losses this season were against Federer.

That quote probably refers to the second set. In the first both played quite well especially on serve until Roger played a great return game to break for the set, but in the second set Novak was going through the motions and made a lot of uncharacteristic wild errors on routine groundstrokes.

But I don't think it's a loss that will hurt Novak too much, as his level in the first set would probably have been enough to take that set against everyone else. Also the loss ended some streaks and relieves the pressure that comes with them, while he still has advancing to the semi finals completely in his own hands.

Novak won't win the group regardless of the results of the last two group matches.

The possible outcomes are:

Djokovic wins against Berdych: 1. Federer 2. Djokovic
Nishikori and Berdych win: 1. Nishikori 2. Federer
Federer wins and Berdych wins in 2 sets: 1. Federer 2. Berdych
Federer wins and Berdych wins in 3 sets: 1. Federer 2. Djokovic
