The difference between being a Dad and not.... Djoker comes out holding on to the little guy's hand, keeping an eye on him and checking how he's doing. I'm not sure Nishi's kid was even holding his hand but his bag and being dragged along... :cover

Novak looking pretty sharp from the first couple of games...

Anyone who hoped he may be less motivated or tired, will have to reconsider.

Nishi looking like sushi out there. Let's see if he can play better in the 2nd set.

The guys just said the surface is exactly the same as Paris. I find that very sad.

Yeah, needs to be like Basel as it was in previous years. Basel is much faster. They can run down almost every ball here. :nono

Enough of this for me. Nishikori still hasn't improved his serving and hasn't a prayer here as it's way too slow for his attacking game.

I don't see the logic of it myself. The way they've tinkered with the sport over the last decade or more, it's like watching Bizarro tennis. Indoor tennis was always a separate set of skills to everything else, just as grasscourt tennis was, and clay. Players had to be like a Swiss army knife to cope with the different circumstances, and generally they didn't. Now, a good bread-knife cuts the same everywhere... :nono

There's always badminton, table tennis, or squash to watch.

Yeah, bring back the old days where we had specialists on every surface and a few exceptions who were great on all of them eventhough they were also vastly different speeds, bounces, etc. Now being proficient on all of them requires fitness more than anything else as it's more about running after balls than putting them away. Pretty disgusted to put it mildly. Make this court as fast as Basel and there's no way the score will be like it is now. Kei takes the ball so early and yet practically everyone of his shots that he belts seven shades of $h1t out of here can be run down and hit back. That's just not the way it should be.

I don't think Kei is firing on all cylinders. His serve was atrocious; he won less than half of his first serves he got in. He retired at Bercy and they probably should have given his spot to the alternate.

His serving his been his downfall for quite a while really. When it's working well it can be great but usually is awful. Loses games out of nowhere through sloppy play from even 40-0 up often and frequently double faults games away. Agree would've preferred to see an alternate here. I doubt he'll win a match here.

Boring 1st match, but it look like Djoker is prepared for last stand, he seems to be fresh enough.

Sounds as though Todd Martin has been coaching him on his serve.

Novak look rested and keen, but Kei was a shadow of a top player. I wonder what 2016 will bring for the lad. Maybe a struggle with fitness, but also he seems as a player to have stepped backwards from last year...

Only saw a couple games near the end; not really Kei's fault! Nole was just "on" and didn't let him breathe for a mement! There was nothing the guy could do to staunch the onslaught of rapid-fire shots thrown at him! It was an evisceration and no one could have done much better from what little I saw of this match! :cover :nono

Brother, do you remember when he first appeared on the radar? We never thought his body would hold up under the wear and tear of the pro tour. Seems the concern was valid as he battles these niggling injuries way too often.
