RE: NBA Playoffs

Never got close. Some people on LA were taking shots they shouldn't have been taking, mainly Barnes, Collison and Redick. Disappointing series, after game 1 I was expecting it'd be more of a battle.

I am very familiar with Aristotle because he pretty much founded the bases of what I believe.

That is almost entirely laughable. Have you ever read the Nicomachean Ethics? Aristotle defines man in a completely anti-Randian fashion. I always find it funny when objectivists think they are Aristotleans. It is truly one of the dumbest intellectual beliefs in the world.

One of the most comical books I have ever read was called "The Ayn Rand Cult". The fun facts about the eccentricities and silliness of Rand and her closest admirers show what a farce her and her "philosophy" are.

1972Murat said:
He had some left over Platonism here and there but he can be excused for that . I am not sure if YOU understand Aristotle though.

The Nicomachean Ethics, the Politics, and De Anima all include teachings and insights that completely contradict your worldview, both in terms of Rand's idiotic political statements as well as the anti-religious platitudes you repeat.

1972Murat said:
Aristotla is against the supernaturalism of Plato.

Go read De Anima. This statement simply makes me wince.

1972Murat said:
Aristotle's world is not full of Platonic abstractions, and it is not controlled by divine entities but reason and logic. He believed knowledge must be based on objectively defined concepts.

Which makes it pretty amusing that he was de rigueur among the educated in the Catholic Middle Ages and that his foremost student in history was Thomas Aquinas, doesn't it?

The Scholastics were all Aristotleans.

1972Murat said:
Early objectivism you could say. Aristotle is the first John Galt.

This is the kind of statement that makes me chuckle at modern education.

1972Murat said:
You should read him more and understand him better, and minus the few Platonic residues.

You need to read the Nicomachean Ethics, the Politics, and De Anima. If you make serious study of it, you will come away believing that Ayn Rand was a fool about human nature.

Once again Cali, as I have told you in an other thread, as long as you insist the books you read are the only right ones and what you believe is the only right belief, nobody will take you seriously.

In the meantime, enjoy the basketball. Sorry the best team in the east is gone, but hey, that's the difference between real world and your fantasy basketball. In real world, the better team wins probably %99 of the time in a 7 game series.

To all the Clippers fans, your team have the fundamental s for a championship but there are a few areas that need improvement but I really impressed with the progress of Blake Griffin. He has really developed a mid range game and he works well with Doc and CP3. I am curious, does anyone recalled how he matched up against LBJ this past year.

RE: NBA Playoffs

So who wins the conference finals?

OKC should be able to take San Antonio especially if Parker is not at 100%. They don't have an answer for Westbrook either and Durant will be Durant. Dallas gave them a lot more trouble than Portland and a lot of that was due to their uptempo play. OKC in a fairly easy 6.

Miami is playing pretty solid in the playoffs and Indy has been up and down. But that does little to change the fact that Indy presents some big matchup problems, specifically with Hibbert. If Hibbert doesn't disappear this will be a tough series. Given what's happened with Indy it is tough to pick against the Heat and the fact they've gone through the first 2 rounds so easily is good news for Lebron and Wade. Heat in 6.

Ibaka will miss the remainder of the post season. Can't see OKC and their already iffy defense winning the title now. In fact, even the Spurs series becomes an uphill battle.

I think Miami beats the Pacers as I'm still not convinced the Pacers are over their terrible slump.

OKC just confirmed he won't be be playing against in these playoffs. They didn't specify the nature of the calf injury though.

I'm afraid so. I'm an OKC fan but this Ibaka injury means they have no chance against Miami, which almost makes me root for SAS in the Western Conference Finals since they are the best equipped team to beat Miami.

SA has a better chance to beat Miami than OKC does regardless of Ibaka. It makes Miami's chances lesser if SA wins the series and it makes their chances better if OKC still advances.

RE: NBA Playoffs

With or without Ibaka, I would not hesitate to pick SAS over OKC. Pop would come up with a defensive scheme to slow down OKC and with OKC's defense, SAS would probably take it in 6. What about Parker though? Is he playing?

Miaimi will win the other series in 5.

RE: NBA Playoffs

Parker is playing and said the hamstring isn't an issue (whether or not that is true remains to be seen). I actually think OKC wins regardless. Ibaka's absence obviously hurts but the main problem OKC poses is on offense and Ibaka isn't as big of factor there compared to rebounding/defense. OKC won the 2012 series in 6 games and though that was with Harden and Ibaka I do think Westbrook and Durant have grown since then. The Spurs are still the Spurs and that's shocking...they never seem to get old.

I will say it now, if it is Spurs - Miami it will be San Antonio in 6 at most. I think Heat would beat OKC for sure now.

Don't forget the Eastern Conference Finals start today on ABC at 3:30 EST.

By the way, NBA finals will be Spurs vs Heat vol II. Duncan will win his final ring and retire

I'm so bitter over Ibaka's injury... OKC have virtually no chance of winning the entire thing now.

I still have OKC winning against the Spurs but they probably don't beat Miami now (if Miami makes it).

Lost in all this talk is the Pacers, it wouldn't surprise me that much if they beat Miami. 2 months ago I would have said absolutely but now it is probably advantage Miami, they've stepped it up in the playoffs and Indy is still up and down.

KSkate, I think Duncan had his final ring last year but lost it when Coach Pop put him on the bench during the final seconds of game 6..it was one of the absolutely biggest brain cramps I have ever seen from a champion of any sports, especially a former NBA champion

Good start to the game, both teams getting what they want on offense so far. Hibbert is fairly active as well.

You won't get any argument from me on Pop. I said so at the time. I couldn't believe Pop did that.

I don't trust Indy. Lemme put it this way, I expect them to be exactly who they are (a confused team who's up and down).
