Fresh off the Press, The Swiss Miss, Martina Hingis is playing doubles right here in Indian Wells:

Sabine is her Partner!

:wow:
I'm not sure, but I believe that I read that she is also coaching Sabine? What happened with her partnership with Anastasis Pav?

Yes, she is coaching Sabine. The price that Sabine pays is to play doubles with her.

Pity Vera Zvonareva lost her match after dishing out a bagel in set 2. Hope she starts winning some matches soon.

Vera was actually served the bagel after she won the opening set 6-4
She should know better than to lose her focus against a player like Peng.

Si's worst nightmare came true and Nara made it past the American Qualifier.
I watched the scoreboard and it wasn't like Nara blew the American qualifier out of the court, there were moments when it looked like Nara could lose the first set after jumping ahead in the beginning.

I still think Simona would win in straights...

Order of play is out:

Maddie Keys took out Pironkova rather handily.

What about Kristen88
No, nothing, nada there. I had about 4-5 names there but I stopped now. There is that "drg" deranged nutter who hates me as if I am Drakula who brings bad name to Romania :D Sooner or later my style of posting gives me away.. and why bother anyway? That place (not here) is rubbish and full with idiots.
That place (not here) is a typical mob mentality forum.
Its a shame that it got so many slaves who feed each other with traffic...

Nara bagelled her in 2nd set. She is new at this level, just got into top 50 with no experience.
You will hear of Nara this year. In Doha, Simona had her hardest match in the first match v Kanepi, and Nara will be the same in IW. I hope Simona goes through but I am "shaking it"

There are 12 qualifiers and 8 wild cards, lets see how many survive?
Bunch of them play today...

And 32 byes which in my opinion is very wrong and not sportive.
Only 8 byes should be given so that 24 more players can play !
I want to see only 8 byes in all tournaments including grand slams.

Well Si, this is as big as it comes minus a slam, it's a 128 player field, minus 32 means there are 96 players attending. That's not counting the 48 players who did qualifying.

Anyway, the bottom of draw had 8 qualifiers and 4 wild cards, only four survived out of 12, they were Sharon Fichman who did a come-from-behind job, Yaroslava Shvedoa, Shelby Rogers and Heather Watson who beat a wild card.

Si, there are no byes in grand slams. Everyone who wins a major has to play a minimum of 7 matches unless they get a walkover from their opponent. The exception to the 7 match rule would be if a qualifier won a slam, they likely have played 3 more matches.

only four survived out of 12,

Even if we take this small number as an indicator, it means that 8 more out of 24 qualifiers (a third) would have made it to R2 instead of 8 byes. Its much more fair. A player ranked #28 (i.e.) should not get a bye.

Looking forward to Townsend vs Knapp. Winner meets Pennetta. I like Townsend's game. Hope she does well here. What is her status? Left juniors?

I think Taylor is done w/ the Juniors. Lots of breaks in the Taylor/Knapp match.

I see some raw talent in Taylor but she would benefit greatly from a hard-core fitness coach to get her to the next level

For sure GG. It's been talked about the last 2 years, but I don't see alot of change in her fitness. Meanwhile, she dominates the opening breaker 7-1.

Well that's just....sad. If someone said to me 'hey lose these 15-20 lbs and I'll guarantee you can mix it up in the Top 20', I'd be like where do I sign:D

But I guess if you've been super successful as a junior at the weight and fitness level and you have that raw talent, it might be hard (as a 17 yr old ) to see the other perspective.

Reality will bite. She will not dominate the WTA w/ her current fitness level. Just ask Petra and a number of others. You can win here and there, but you'll never be as good as you can be as long as you're a 1/2 step or so behind.
