Sonego is indeed a good, intense player and recent history says is never to late for a top 50 player. I have never seen him play so well, even if I cannot fail to mention that Fonseca's drop in intensity in set 2 and 3 helped him a lot. By the way, some of other matches seem to be in slow motion compared to theirs ...
Yeah, unless Learner Tien has that drop in intensity that Fonseca has, Tien is going to make it to the semifinals.

Tien making it to the semifinals would be a lot better for the game and future of men's tennis than a player like Monfils.

Nope, Monfils making it to the SF’s would be wonderful for men’s tennis, what a narrative that would weave. ; )

What have you got against French players? :)
You know what I would love to see Monfils win the AO this year, no I am not drunk or taking drugs, or other medication, if my Italian cannot repeat

" My dream is to be old and healthy, with lots of kids" ( I hope he has run that by his wife Elina)
Monfils after his win against Fritz.

Yes. A prematch to the Davis Cup match coming up...

So much talent in Serbia, but none of these guys can finish! Novak's been alone, but got them thru 2010 to take their lone Davis Cup! Of course there was the Inaugural ATP (now United) CUP a few yrs. ago, but that's been about it in team comp.! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface::anxious-face-with-sweat::face-vomiting:

Hmmm... I am not that sure. Yes, Fonseca let his level drop in two sets, but even in the sets he won, Sonego was right there. If he keeps that level, he has a big chance to take this one

Francisco Cerundolo v Alex de Minaur Highlights | Australian Open 2025 Third Round

three hours, 50 minutes to play 4 sets of tennis !!!

Worrying signs to me was Alex led 5-3 in the first set and then lost 4 games in a row. He double-faulted on set-point.

Alex really let him off the hook and then the match became a gruelling baseline battle.
He cannot afford to let this lapse happen, again !!!

The argentine was affected by cramps late in the third and for the rest of the match which took away some of the quality of this battle.

He double-faulted on match point.

Tommy Paul played his best tennis so far in the tournament defeating Davidovich Fokina 61 61 61!, I felt that the longer matches Foki had before this match caught up with him.
Paul awaits the winner of Zverev v Humbert in the QFs

Jack Draper retired in his match against Alcaraz, had the trainer out in the 1st set, playing 2 five sets matches have taken a toll
Alcaraz 75 61 moves into the QFS
Draper and Alcaraz were to have a pre training session at JCF academy, Draper had sustained a hip injury and wasnt able to have a training block with Carlos
Alcaraz going into the 'business end' of the AO looks healthy and in good form, awaits the winner of Djokovic and Lecheka

Thanks Margaret. Yes, that was sad from Draper's point of view. He light up the championships in the first week with his five set wins versus the two aussie's Kokkinakis and Aleksandar Vukic in the 3rd round. Both matches he trailed 2 sets to 1 and had to endure a rowdy, at times rude crowd but handled the situation very well In that respect , I really felt bad for him and also Danielle Collins.
Congrats to Carlos !!! He's my pick to win the championships.

I really don't understand the fascination of Monfils. The guy is 38 years old. It's not like he's an all-time great like Djokovic either. Monfils doesn't move the needle for me the way that players like Sinner, Alcaraz, Fonseca, Tien, Michelsen, and Mensik do.

A young player like Tien winning would be like Pete Sampras winning in 1990. It would grow the sport, just like Sinner breaking out last year. Monfils winning would be like if Wayne Ferreria won in the mid-2000s. It wouldn't do much for the sport.

Mens Singles QFs, Bottom Half,

Alcaraz (3) vs Djokovic (7) Djokovic leads H2H 4-3, although Alcaraz has won two of the pairs 3 previous outings at majors
Zverev (2) vs Paul (11) Interesting fact that Paul leads their H2H 2-0, though they havent met since IW 2022, his other win is also on HC in Mexico

Controversy at the Australian Open, where following his win, Novak refused an on-court interview with Jim Courier. He was unhappy with Channel 9 , the host broadcaster and it's anchorman Tony Jones mocking Serbian fans and calling Djokovic a "has been" during a broadcast near a week ago. Nine should get rid of Jones who's nothing but ageing moron. This is a guy who also called Danielle Collins a "brat" and now this!!

There is always some type of drama with Djokovic isnt there? lol!
I am not sticking up for Jones and his comments, his so called humor has backfired on him 100%

this is the incident in question. Jones clearly was mocking the Djokovic fans on-air.
The host chanting to the crowd: ''Novaaak, he's overraaaated, he's a has-been....oh I am glad they can't hear me back '' - how professional!!!

Dont worry on social media Novak fans want him stoned in the streets of Melbourne :)
The professional thing for Jones to do is to apologize full stop!
