jerzy janowicz could have an outside chance of qualifying also..but he prob need to win or reach final of a masters and win a atp500event..

its something to consider that seemingly looks unlikely just now..but he pulled out of the davis cup with a back prob than he had in uso. so maybe he wont even play in October

Nah. He has no chance imo 'cos he's defending final points from the Paris masters and it's hard to see him defending those in all honesty. Maybe next year. If he keeps improving he'll definitely qualify sooner or later. Really needs to vary his serving though (more body serves for one thing) and cut down a bit on the dropshots. They were brilliantly disguised at Paris last year but now everyone is familiar with his game and the element of surprise is gone.
eh  the 600 rank pts he got in paris last year don't count because they were..umm last year.

anyway ive changed my mind..jj is further adrift than I thought..not impossible but v unlikely.

Yeah but those ranking points will come off before the Paris masters so essentially he has to reach the final again to maintain his current points, otherwise he's got 600 less. Likewise Ferrer is unlikely to defend there imo so he'll lose a good few points too from winning it last year.

no no no we are talking about the 'race to london' :cover

..forget about "last years points" they are irrelevant. they don't exist for this purpose..

Either way he won't make the top 8 by then anyway. Hopefully next year as he'd be a formidable force there and best of 3 makes him more deadly with that serve.

same old same old..:s

he got a herniated disc / sciatica, I don't know why he doesn't have an operation to fuse the discs together if that's the prob.

he keeps the condition in check with 'exercises' and physio..and injections, but in the summer when he missed French open he said he was tired of playing drugged up or in pain..

its an ongoing thing so I cant see where he is going with it, its not as if it will go away all of a sudden.

he has to get that taken care of in the off season.

he is young and he is a world class athlete. he will recover fairly quickly.

As someone with back pain, I empathize. Surgeries are only a stop-gap. If I were him, I would put off surgery as long as possible. Exercises can help a lot. A lot of people in my family have had back surgery, and it only seems to start a trend of surgeries.

I'm no doctor, but those are my thoughts.

I'm no doctor, either, but I've heard more problems that resulted from back surgery than were solved by them. Andy is young, and has top-notch doctors and physios to sort him out. I would hope that strength, stretching and conditioning would be the answer over surgery.

andy will be competing at the thai open.

I am hoping it goes well for him. and of course I hope the back holds up.

he ran over ivan dodig in straights today so he may be on his way to recovery already.

According to Live Race Rankings, David Ferrer has now officially qualified for
the WTF. So, only four spots are left now.

I believe the real contenders for these four spots are confined to the
following eight.

1. Berdych
2. Del Potro
3. Federer
4. Gasquet
5. Wawrinka
6. Tsonga
7. Milos
8. Haas

Tsonga is in action this week finally.

time to get ready for the fireworks at the O2 arena.

here is my prediction: I don't think nadal is going to take this one.

he looks pretty well spent. he has used up an immense amount of physical and mental capital in winning those 10 tournaments. it took a massive effort.

nothing is ever easy for the clay warrior. he has to earn every single win the hard way.

Hey CD, see my last post in Nadal-Djokovic final thread.

There is a high chance that Nadal will be able to safely skip Paris while
Federer and Djokovic and others do not have that luxury.

If Nadal does that he may be the fresher in comparison to other contestants
in WTF.

Remember that this year WTF is right after Paris with no time gap between them.
So, this would mean it is the second week in a row for players of Paris tournament
and third week in a row for players of Basel/Valencia followed by Paris tournament.
When it comes to this kind of WTF, it may just be a question of who is fresh and
gas left in the tank as opposed to who is more talented. That description may fit
Nadal perfectly.

I am not ready to write off Nadal for the WTF.

I don't have any doubt about his abilities. I just think the man is spent right now.

and he risks an injury for the sake of trying to capture WTF.

it is not that important in the long run scheme of things for him.

what is far more critical is showing up healthy, fresh, hungry, and fit for 2014.

nadal does not have to "earn every single win the hard way" though does he..:snigger

that sf v burdytch..it was only 4-2 in the first set when tomas cried off. easy win there I think.

well that goes without saying. that match never even got started really.

on the average, people sitting at home have no idea how hard these athletes work to make it look easy at times.

I am not one of those people though. I just felt like mentioning not every single rafa match is..

"A glorious devastating blood drenched battle into the hagridden tennis void..where only the rampant and moistest triumphant oiled up musclebound warrior can even hope to think about sniffing the sulphur drizzed atmosphere of ultimate victory"..:emperor:

..sometimes its just a regulation tennis match..where one bloke wins and goes off to have a shower and massage, and the other bloke loses and goes off to have a shower and massage.
